needing help with an ar-10/.308

Re: needing help with an ar-10/.308

reading this entire semi-auto section would be a good start as people have shown their builds in here. there are several group buys going and SHOT just ended and several new 308 options are available. go back 20-30 pages

I guess want to keep it as cheap as possible but I don't want a peice of crap. I will be using it for long-range shooting.

I have looked at the. lwrc r.p.e.r / Remington r25 / and some armalites. I was think I could build something with better parts for a cheaper price then they are asking.

Re: needing help with an ar-10/.308

What are your intentions with the rifle?

I don't own any of the three you have mentioned, but my DPMS has served me well. Granted the only DPMS parts on it are the receivers. Noveske have some nice builds, and their barrel is awesome.

Re: needing help with an ar-10/.308

If i drop the hammer on one it will be for 0-800yd gun to shoot multiple different targets. And to deer hunt with during season.

I would like to keep it under 1800 for the rifle with out optics.

Done. Problem solved.

Are you referring to the Mega billet upper or the standard upper?

I'm personally lookin at the billet, but other than Armalite and DPMS, who makes a .308 barrel that will fit the Mega upper for precision shooting?

Re: needing help with an ar-10/.308

isnt the remington just a dpms rebranded? the MA-10 only comes one way. as matched set. and any barrel that fits either will work in the MA-10. just send the place/person that makes it your bolt. any dpms barrel would work. they had SASS barrels on sale a while back.

Re: needing help with an ar-10/.308

there are many good ar10's out there. personally i would support the vendors on this site that build them if you want a assembled rifle like GAP or APA.

but the larue OBR has been getting good reviews, the LMT is obviously a good system, i would advise against a KAC since you can get a bolt gun and a ar10 for the price. if you want piston i've the LWRC and POF are both supposedly very good systems. your goin to have fan boys for everybrand and guys who swear by their guns. i have a GAP 20" ar10, and a 16" rock creek barreled ar10 both off JD recievers and love them both, but i think if you go with any of the above mentioned you'd be happy.

i suggest calling GAP or APA and telling them what you want and having them build it for ya. its guarunteed to be a hammer, and both of their customer service is awesome.

What is a good brand to look at buy all ready assembled.

If i was wanting to build one were is a good place to pick up the parts need to build one from scratch.

Get yourself a POF P-308 and you'll be more than happy with your purchase. I was in the same boat you're in when I purchased my rifle last year. I thought I wanted a DPMS-SASS .308 but seeing the POF changed my mind in a hurry.

Here is the end result:

For $2900 you better be happy with your gun.

On a another note. i cant decide if i want a 18" or 20" barrel.

If i buy a one i think im set on the Remington/dpms R25.

IF i build one i will use the following

Mega arms monolithic upper
Mega arms lower.
Mega amrs trigger.

were is a good place to get a list of other parts need for the build.

Yes. Bear in mind that currently, the monolithic Mega uppers are 5.56 only. They have .308 prototypes in the works that are scheduled for release in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2011.

Does anyone else make a upper that is a one piece design like the mega monolithic but in a .308
