I've probably seen Rush a dozen times in concert. There is no drummer who doesn't acknowledge him as one of the greatest ever.

Sad news! Definitely in my top five bands list. Only saw them live once, but as said, a time of music all coming from three guys on stage. Incredible musicians!
Yea fuck cancer, took my father in-law, almost killed my sister and I found out yesterday my best friend (my dog) has it!
One of the best books I have ever read was Ghost Rider, written by Niel Peart after he lost his wife and daughter. This guy has had it pretty tough if you ask me. Read teh book. If not for anything else, it's just a good read to see what a guy does to deal with heavy loss.

Rush is the ONE band that I would peg as the "theme music" of my life. I've liked plenty of other bands over my life. But, Rush is the one that truly resonated with me. The music. The lyrics. The members' personalities. If I could pick a soundtrack for my life, it would be Rush. The depth of the talent of all three of them is stunning. If you've seen the documentary "Beyond the Lighted Stage," you'll remember all the OTHER musicians interviewed... who looked up to Rush as the "gods." They are the musicians' musicians.

As I wrote on my facebook page that i never comment on: Rush has always been there for me...always. This day sucks, cancer sucks. It so sad that his daughter is only 11 and of those 11 years, Neil gave a lot of himself to us fans.
Justin Bieber - er - Trudeau accuses the USA of being behind the plane shoot down in Iran... the next day, Neil Peart dies. And Canada’s single greatest export is no more.

He performed at a Buddy Rich tribute with Buddy Rich's band. Watch the video and be blown away at his talent that went beyond the world of Progressive Rock. His solo starts at about 3:50. Watch the reactions of the band members behind him at about 5:40. You'll see one guy craning his neck as if he was thinking, "how the fuck is he doing that??"

Wow. I remember my dad taking me to see every concert they came to San Diego every year. He never missed a concert since the 70s. His drum solos would last for 30 minutes with being surrounded 360° with his arsenal.
RIP brother. I remember when Moving Pictures came out in the early 80's and just loving the shit out of that album. I think I wore the needle on my turntable out.
