Shot my HK P7 M8 today, a great gun ahead of its time in many ways. I was thinking, instead of bringing back the SL8, HK should bring us a modernized P7. The gun could be a little thinner, either improve the heat shielding or drop the gas system all together, but please please please keep the grip cocking. Then add a light rail and take my money.

I'd certainly be in for it! I'd prefer to keep the gas system though . . . stupid reliable!

It was truly ahead of its time. The P7M13 may be my favorite pistol. Seldom discussed, the clever action of removing the firing pin without any tools renders the pistol inert in a matter of seconds.

I know this thread is older and has not seen much attention but I still want to post. I recently gave in and after years of wanting a P7 I bought one. Shot it for the first time today. All I can say is wow. For an almost 40 year old pistol it is amazing. I wish HK would produce them again. I would buy a couple today no question asked. I doubt we will ever see it but still come on HK do it.

In the mid-80’s I bought my first pistol - a P7 M13 with 2 mags and a wood display box - about $650? All in. I have shot thousands of rounds without a failure. Extremely accurate. About 5-6 years ago I had Bruce Gray do an action job on it - dramatically reduced the reset and lowered the pull weight more - it is incredibly sweet now. After that I ended up buying a .40 Expert (for IPSC - bobbed trigger) and .45 Elite. I had HK mod their match triggers by combining with their Combat Competition trigger elements in an LEO Config. Then Bruce did action/trigger jobs on them that again dramatically reduced reset. Then I got a MR556A1 Comp - with a Leupold DEVO/LCO combo. Broke it in slowly over a few weeks (10x 1, 10x3, 10x 5 with complete cleaning between each, and used Hornaday First Shot (One Shot after break in) . With Fiocchi 77SMK match ammo it shoots 1/2 MOA and I can’t even see 1/2 MOA. I love all my HK’s, but my P7 is always my Belle of the ball. Have a custom leather Monarch shoulder and IWB carry rigs for it. HK should bring back the P7 in some form.
