The question at this point would be: How much are you going to shoot, and how willing are you to replace barrels? 308's regularly go over 10,000 rounds. 6.5 Creedmoor's seldom make it to 2,500.Quick question. I will never be willing to reload. Would I be best to buy a 308 rifle or 6.5 Creedmore based upon ammo choices. Thinking Bergarra HMR type rifle for PRS game.
Thanks in advance.
Will shoot 500. -1000 rPer year.
Practice and local matches only.
Didn't know this. Which berger ammo has Lapua brass?this ^^^^^
but.... if i was in your shoes.
i'd go 6.5c - buy the berger loaded ammo.
then turn around and sell the lapua brass for $0.75/ea
shoot for half the costs essentially.

6.5 is flatter and better in wind, and plenty of good match ammo choices at reasonable prices.
Two valid points..308 because you never want to change the barrel.
That is plan for next couple months. If I was only gonna dabble in a local club match I'd get a 223 shooting heavyweights and not worry about barrel life. Way cheaper to shoot so that means lots of practice, and factory ammo selection is endless. Light recoil, etc. etc.
6 Creed is cheaper to shoot than 6.5 Creed if you are buying factory ammo. The Hornady Black 105 HPBT is very consistent and is $180 per 200 round case plus shipping at various online retailers. That's what I'd do to compete if I didn't reload.
