Are the latest production standard base model 10-22's matte black or shiny blued? I have not seen one in person.

Also before I order one, what's the vote synthetic or wood, I'm thinking wood looks better, but synthetic is a little more utilitarian/weather proof?

Re: New 10-22

Before i changed out my barrel and stock, I remember matte black (i don't have the barrel anymore to double-check). I would go with the synthetic stock; pretty lightweight.

That is, if, you decide to keep the factory stock and barrel. I changed mine out to a green mountain bull barrel and a hogue stock. love it. most would say avoid the hogue on a larger caliber bolt gun, which i'd agree with, but it's a joy to shoot on the 10/22.

good luck with your decision, you'll be happy with a great gun whichever way you go!

Re: New 10-22

I just bought a new one today at Dick's and it looked shiny blued to me. The only parts I am using are the bolt, guide rod with spring and bolt handle, receiver, and magazine. Barrel, sights, stock, trigger group....will be changed with aftermarket ones...

Honestly, after doing a lot of 10/22's...I think I would just start with parts....MOA, Nodak, Kidd receiver, kidd bolt GM , Kidd barrel, ect.. You just end up changing them out anyway...least I did....just the receiver was left on most of the builds...and now I am thinking about changing some of them....

I'm with you on that. I did the same thing. Changed everything but the bare receiver.
