New 30cal purchase

Hi All from Australia,
I’m going to be soon purchasing my first 30 calibre magnum.
I was initially thinking the tried and trusted 300winmag, however then someone suggested if starting out now they would go the 300prc.
either way I will need to purchase dies cases etc. the main reason I’m leaning towards the winmag is it’s cheaper and easier to find components, especially in Australia.
I will be using this for general plinking and smacking steel as far as I can

This will be in a factory rifle, what are your thoughts?

300 win mag for sure. PRC brass and components are very expensive and hard to find. 300 win will do everything you need it to do and plenty of factory options as well. Maybe consider switching for your next barrel change but as of right now the Wincuester.

If you plan to hand load heavies, consider the Rhian Mantha reamer. Set up to shoot 215 hybrids in 300wm, great combo.

I shoot both 300wm and 300nm and like them both. You are in luck both 300wm and 300prc brass is available at Graf and sons as if 09:10 tonight.
Powder and primer may be harder to come for both. I run H-1000 in my 300wm. My friend is using N565 in his 300 prc.
I have very good loads in my 300wm for both 208 and 218 berger hybrids with H-1000. The bad new when I was at Shot Show this year Hodgdon boys told me all the Retumbo and about 80% of the H-1000 will be going to supply the military. If you need to Magpro will work well with either 208 or 215. Just be aware it can be temp sensitive. I would also look at N560, N565 or Ram shot magnum. Ironically at Mile High, the Lapua 300 PRC is $10 cheaper and in stock. Lapua 300 Win Mag and 300 PRC are both $200 for 100 on Gafs. Both 300 PRC and 300 Win Mag Hornady brass is $63 for 50 count at Gafs. Peterson is within a few dollars of each other. Not sure that it's actually cheaper, might be worth looking into if that's a reason for sticking with 300 WM over the PRC.

Edit: Hornady factory loaded 225 ELDM in 300 PRC is $42/box at Mile High as well.

LOL ah yes I did indeed miss that! Sorry to hear man. Very different situation!

Edit: the win mag is still a hell of a cartridge, you're giving up very little taking it over a prc.
