I just received my new R700 today. Built by Score High Gunsmithing in Albuquerque. I wanted a benchrest rifle and I also wanted a long range practical stick, so I combined the best of the two. It started life as a SPS in 243 and just about everything was changed. The gunsmiths did a great job on it and the fit and finish is absolutely superb. I worked up 50 test loads for it today so tomorrow I'll head to the range.
Action was blueprinted, firing pin bushed and centered, they also bedded the action and scope base, everything is rock solid. The build itself didn't take more than a week or two from the time they received the barrel, but it took 4 months to get to them. It's a 1-8 twist #17 stainless Brux cut to 24" and finished with a backbored 11 degree crown. The crown and chamber are mirrors. I got a half pound Shilen trigger fitted and PTG bottom metal. The whole gun is black cerakoted. This is my first custom gun so I'm extremely pleased and hopefully this won't be the start of an addiction.

Yeah, with a stick like that you're pretty much hooked. Enjoy your new addiction!

Very nice rifle. I've been considering a 6.5X47L build myself, and you've put some great ideas in my head. I too am waiting on your range report.

Re: New 6.5x47 Lapua R700

I took it to the range today and was thoroughly impressed. It took me about 8 shots to get it on paper, mostly because my buddy who was spotting thought he was seen bullets going high when they were actually impacting he dirt. Once I got it on paper at 200 yards I started testing some various loads. I started with 36gns of Varget loaded to 2.700" but didn't get to chronny them since my buddy wanted to paint his tripod to be more tacticlol so I had to wait for that to dry. Once we got the chronny set up I was shooting from my batch of 36.4gn loads. The fastest was 2663 and the slowest was 2648. I was getting slight ejector wipe with this load, and when I moved up to 36.6 i was getting a little more wiping but velocities were all within 2660-2663. Not too bad I guess. I'm going to stick with 36.4 as my max load for brass life. All charges basically grouped the same, all less than an inch at 200 yds. Here's my best target. I was shooting off the bipod with a crappy rear bag that was too short, so some fist contorting was required. Next time I'll bring better equipment and shoot it off a proper rest. I know it'll do better.

I took it home tonight and foamed the bore, then ran 4 patches. The 4th came out clean so I called it good.
