I've shot guns since I was old enough to hold one but I haven't strayed at all into this LR shooting thing.Help me if you can or announce my ignorance.Hell I can laugh about that too.I'm here to learn being I have no mentors to teach me.I've read alot on here and have been overwelmed with information and knowledge.Just sighned up!I know the whole stupid question thing so rip me if you need.

Question:I've just bought a new 308 and need to know what to learn with.Mill/mill?

I'm considering the SS 3-9x40.

Welcome. The second topic from the top in this forum is called Optic's FAQ.

Read that first, which should keep you amused from several hours over several days.

Then as you have questions, use the search function. Do not use the one at the upper right, use this one as it will yield faster and more on topic information:

That should keep you amused and interested for a few more hours/days/weeks.

Then after you read a bunch, and retained little, you can post some questions, hear some opinions and gather data.

Can't go wrong with the SS, I think that would be a good choice for you. After that, I would say the online training offered here through Rifles Only is the best investment you can make. Superb information, will make sure you start the right way and practice correctly. I can't say enough good things about the online training, so, go sign up.

Once I got over the initial shock of trying mil/mil vs moa/moa I found the mil/mil much easier.I can think in 10th's much easier than 1/4's.

Don't worry about how many inches your bullet drops or how many inches a mil is at distance!!!Just obey the ballistic table/program,dial turrets or holdover and fire.

Bent doesn't come out the chute asking stupid questions, and BobinNC -- who's been posting less than a year -- saves him from asking annoying questions in the future by helping him out with great, helpful, info -- with no smart arse remarks or queer music videos?
