Hello.. I'm new to the long range game. I've just got a savage 10 grs in 6.5 to play with at PRS stuff. I know I want to get a ffp scope but would prefer to spend about $1000 but people I know are all recommending 1500-3000 dollar scopes. I've looked at a few like the vortex pst gen 2 and compared it to the nikon black fx1000 in 6-24 and 5-25 powes. To my inexperienced eyes and without spending (possibly too much or a lot for nothing) I'm not sure where to go.. what is a good budget ffp scope to look at.

If you want features, XTR II and PST II are safe bets. Athlon Ares is also a consideration if you're fine with Chinese glass.

If you don't need features, Sightron SIII beats them all in glass / turret feel / build quality. JMO

I picked up a SFP Nightforce SHV for pretty cheap after watching sales at Cabela's, coupons, discount gift cards etc. You could probably pick up the FFP version for under your $1,000 price point with some work. At that price you can sell it in a year if you aren't happy and probably break even.

A vortex pst is a pretty solid starter/ budget scope. I run two of them right with my nightforce and have no issues. I’ve never owned a Burris xtr II but sounds like they would be solid for the money too. Seems like your considerations for your budget are on the right track. As mentioned above.... decide which reticle you like between the two may be the deciding factor.

I would recommend a Sig Sauer tango 6. They recently redesigned them and launched a generation 2 that is more compact and has more elevation adjustment. The generation 1s where on clearance this last year and I picked mine up for less than $750. It was a 2k priced scope. These as excellent for the money. They have excellent glass and a rock solid warranty. All the features that you could ask. FFP, Zero stop, mil or Moa, great reticles, a,d plenty of elevation with a 20 or 30moa base.

The Sig tango 6 1st generations can still be found in the optics trading post or eBay. Look up the reviews, I don't think you can go wrong. The generation 2 scopes are 34 mm instead of 30 mm a little shorter and have an integrated leveling feature.
