New AR/Fighting with 77grn SMKs

Re: New AR/Fighting with 77grn SMKs

Are you paying paying attention to your breathing? Firing at the bottom of the cycle?

Seemed almost like voodoo to me, but after watching the online training video I tried it. Son of a bitch if my consistant 1or2 fliers out of 5 shots didnt disappear.

On one cluster group, I caught myself firing at the top of my breath right as I did it. The shot was high and right. I fired a 6th shot the correct way and it dropped right into the other four.

This was in an AR with a 24" bull barrel in .204 Ruger too! (very minimal hop or recoil).

ShrockWorks,

I'm trying to shoot at the bottom of the cycle. I don't usually have an issue with this. That being said, it doesn't rule my technique (or lack thereof)out.

I was up yesterday and watched the sight picture as I felt the trigger break. I would hold then come back to see where things were and the flyers were again random. I'm now working on different pressures with my cheek and rear bags.

For some reason the "fundamentals"seem to make a significantly bigger difference with the gas guns. I've heard this from G.A Precision and Rifles Only, and it does seem to be true in my experience so far. I guess it's because there is so more more going on and the lock time is slower.

This is from GA's www site: "...consistent shooter position is extremely critical when shooting a semi-automatic. With practice a skilled shooter can run a semi auto with the same precision as a bolt rifle."

I'm running a Geissle High Speed Match trigger on than gun adjusted to about 1 lb on the second stage. That helps too.

My 24" bushmaster was doing about the same as yours. Also I thought it was my shooting fundamentals. But as it turned out I just needed to find the right bullet and powder combo. It seamed that rifle was very pickey about loads. I ended up useing 4064 powder and the 69gr SMK.
It did take quite a bit of range time and several calls to Bushmaster; questioning if I needed to send the upper back for repair or not. Thankfully I did not have to send it.
Not to say people are wrong and fundamentals are not important. I still bielive some are overthinking the issue.
