I have an Encore frame that I need a new barrel for.

This will be for hunting mainly.

Right now I have hunting rifles in 223, 270 WSM, 6.5 Grendel, 450 Bushmaster, and 300 Win Mag. What would be a good choice to maybe fill in some gaps or just be a good all arounder for medium sized game up to Mule Deer. I was considering 7mmWSM but it seems that's a no-go in encore barrels.

So whatcha think?

I was thinking maybe 6.5x55 or 260 (Any real benefit in either of these?) I keep hearing great things about 6.5x55.

Any other ideas? I would prefer to keep the rifle short and handy with maybe a 22" barrel if that matters.

the 260 is probably my favorite all around hunting caliber. mabye because i live in indiana and cant hunt with a rifle but it is good for everything smaller than elk.

that said with a 6.5 grendel the 260 really doesn't fill much of a gap for you unless your grendel is set up for 140ish gr gullets or 100 gr bullets. if thats the case you could set the 260 up for the oppisite and have a varmint or mule deer gun

Check out the choices here, http://www.bullberry.com/encore.html
I have one in 460S&W and one in 257 imp. Both are great shooters. They will customize to get you into what you want, they are some realy good folks from my dealings with them.

+1 on the 260 good flat caliber my bud shoots one and he is very happy with it.

Hope it helps,
Steve
