So far I have got to say that I really DO LIKE the RS32-35mm lens and the RS32-19mm lens scopes, they actually perform way better than I though they would (very clear with a wide field of view) and are both perfectly capable of a 225 yard accurate targeting shot even when magnified, these are the best bang for the buck in thermal that I know of.

I have not tried an RS64-35mm lens, but I bet that would be the best overall of mostly everything. The RS32-35mm is a really nice system and probably will be the biggest seller for serious night hunters or land owners with hog/coyote problems since you get a hell of allot of thermal scope in that kit for the money, for one step up the RS64-35mm has got to be the cream of the crop but I have not tried that.

For someone just getting into thermal who likes to night hunt with hogs or coyotes on a budget, that RS32-19mm is surprising very nice and a super good deal in a thermal weapon scope, I predict it will be the biggest seller as it kicks some major arse for the price out to at least 225 yards.

The two RS64-60mm lens and the RS32-60mm lens are great for long range targeting but you give up allot of FOV in the process, would work excellent out in wide open pastures, agricultural crops, and higher mountain elevations where you had 300+ yards of clear view at night.

Here is some info on how close up the non-adjustable objective lens will operate:

15.5 feet for the 19mm lenses (Hyperfcocal distance is 31 feet) to infinity

36.5 feet for the 35mm lenses (Hyperfocal distance is 73 feet) to infinity

From WiKiPedia -> The hyperfocal distance is the closest distance at which a lens can be focused while keeping objects at infinity acceptably sharp. When the lens is focused at this distance, all objects at distances from half of the hyperfocal distance out to infinity will be acceptably sharp.

Did not get info on the 60mm but it would be longer...but the objective is focusable to close-in on closer objects.

Also, parallax is a 100% non-issue with these instruments!

Another very important factor for people to consider in their minds is the relation between the core and the lens.

For any 320 core combined with a 35mm or 60mm lens, the FOV will be 1/2 that of what you will get with the 640 core and the same lens.

In other words the 640 core will double your FOV through the same lens.

That is a consideration in function, utility, and price because most of the time my thermal units are being used in their widest FOV mode possible (with least magnification) 98% of the time I am using the instruments in the woods.

In my mind this make the RS640-35mm unit the best of the lot for my kind of hunting.

Thoughts?

Is it just me or is the video not that clear? Was that captured with a dvr/vid output?

My videos I take with my Thor 320 are pretty crisp. Maybe there's a huge loss in res uploading online? Dunno...

The videos sux due to 100% humidity, drizzling rain, and about 78*F before sundown, the absolute worst monothermal climactic conditions to view with a thermal. Huge difference in high pressure, clear night when things are cooling off after being heated up by the sun all day long. There was no sun on this day, and no heating of the vegetation at all.

I think the only hold up on the scopes is getting the video cables made from a supplier, I have to use a custom one to produce the videos, other than that they are pretty much ready to go.

BTW, that RS64-35mm is a super nice unit...

Availability

I ordered an RS32 35MM but didn't see a reticle choice. I've got to go back and fix that I reckon.. So what is the preffered reticle on these scopes? Any updates on availability?

I ordered a RS64 x 35 from Vic yesterday and he said April delivery. Really looking forward to it. Shot some hogs last week with PVS14 with IR laser on my 6.8 AR and my wife was watching through the FLIR PS32 Scout. Was able to get 2 but one was in the bushes I didn't see, she was amazed I didn't see it as it was red in the FLIR and hard to miss. Hunting in West Texas with lots of rocks the thermal is not as good as the night vision when the sun first sets but when conditions get right the thermal is unbelievable

I am so grateful to SKYPUP for all the great information. Have been following his adventures for a long time and have followed his recommendations on equipment, have not been disappointed!

I am getting allot of PM's asking if a coyote and German Shepard were standing side by side at 200 yards, would I know which one is the coyote and the dog?

Thermal is NOT going to ID an animal like that and it is imperative that the shooter ID's what he is shooting at prior to pulling the trigger.

So the answer is no.

UNLESS you make a nice Ice-cube dog collar! Then you'd know which was the German Shepherd!

Those of you thinking about purchasing one of the FLIR RS thermal weapon scopes should look at this video taken with a FLIR M-18 RECON 640 core with 35mm lens.

FLIR M18 video - YouTube

Video was taken in my back yard with zero moon, clear sky, extremely dark night, low humindity and 58-60*F climate.

My game cam tree is 175 yards out, other beginning of tree canopy is 225 yards out, underneath the tree canopy is 350 yards out.

BTW, this video is compressed about 10X for the internet.

This video is similar to what you will be viewing through a FLIR RS-65-35mm thermal weapon scope.

Notice the extreme clarity, resolution, and super wide FOV.

At night, when hunting, you want ALL THE FOV you can get!

I will be testing out the FLIR RS64-35mm scope again later on this week and will take some video through it to post here for comparison.....

LIN is straight linear thermal, DDE is the digital enhanced, yes that is the enhanced setting I was trying to show with more detail in the image.

All the new RS series FLIR scope come with DDE built in standard all the time....it is not selectable from linear to enhanced, it is always enhanced.

Works best in difficult situations like in the rain and fog....but also works very good in BLK/WHITE Hot modes during the normal day and night.

Also, I see you cycling through different color variation settings. The TNVC site lists the following colors:

RS64 Series: White Hot / Black Hot / Instalert / Sepia / Iron / Red
RS32 Series: White Hot / Black Hot / Instalert / Sepia / Iron / Red

On your video I see : Grey / Rain / Iron / Ice

How do these two sets of viewing color palletes compare?

Same with the addition of Sepia on the RS scopes.

Video output is 720X480 NTSC 30fps

Thanks for all the great info SkyPup.
Have 3 scopes on order and cant wait to get my hands on them.
Went with the 1.1 to 9 640x480 for the field of view.
Units are going on silenced 300 blackout rifles for hog solving.
Hope that FLIR stands by the mid march release date.

Hot off the email press from FLIR....!! Just got word earlier today, the first several units of the RS64, 1.1 - 9X - 35mm we ordered have shipped today from FLIR. They will be going out to some lucky first customers who ordered these from us.

We have other units shipping to us shortly we're told! Stand-by....

For video filming, all you need is a mini DVR video recorder with 720X480 pixels NTSC 30fps recording capability and an RCA port, each scope comes with a miniUSB video cable adapter to plug the DVR RCA into.

Great news all around. Just got word that my 13-month can wait is over and that my 12-month rifle build is shipping today. Now I just need an email from FLIR. Looking forward to fedex as well. Looks like SkyPup gets first dibs. Any chance I can take a peek SkyPup? Gotta help out the local guys.

I am hoping to get off work early today and go home and sight my FLIR RS64-35mm in, I want to get it in the house before a coyote interested in self preservation tries to swipe it off the car port....

It has been raining like hell here for the last 48 hours, even the UPS truck got stuck trying to deliver my new scope to me and had to haul him out with the tractor.

Weather is clearing up this coming weekend and I will be video taping the video feed out of the FLIR and might actually shoot a coyote or hog or two or three or four.

One thing is for sure, when it comes to hog hunting, we don't fuck around....
