Hello shooters. Pretty new to the LR stuff. Put together a budget rifle to get a taste. Begara HMR with a vortex DB tactical. Last range trip I hit a new milestone at 704 yards and decide it was time to upgrade my glass. Found a nice deal on a gen1 Razor should have it in a few days. Hope to get involved in PRS but have a lot to learn!

Kentuckian here too, welcome. Sounds like you're on the right track. Browse around the threads here and you'll find a lot of good information. Lots of helpful people if you ask good questions and are willing to do a little digging yourself.

Hard to find long range in ky. I'm 2 hours from k&m precision, so I'm a member there. 1,200 yards. Rockcastle has some long ranges i think, but I've never been there.

Woo hoo! Count me in!
Me too... can't find more than about 400 to 425 local to me.

Didn't Rockcastle just get sold or something? Bushnell match was supposed to be there but just got moved to NC. I hope another long range shooting place hasn't just been lost!

The only public range local to me is Knob Creek, the have about 330 yards. There is a range in Borden Indiana that's a private club, they have 500 yards. I'm not a member there, but have shot their matches there.

Not sure. I haven't heard anything about it. I'm sure someone around here knows.

I'm in Louisville about 15 minutes from Knob Creek.
I'm pretty sure you can get out to 350 at Livonia up by Salem IN.
I have a shooting buddy in Georgetown IN that we can get out to 300 at his place and he is clearing out woods to get to 400+

Thanks for the info!

I'm considering joining the club in Borden to get me to 500 yards.

Yet ANOTHER Bluegrass Newbie here. From Central KY, Spencer County. Just getting started here too. I have a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308 that I have been getting Half dollar to quarter sized groups out to 250 yards but that is as far as I can stretch it here at home. Wanna see what my eyes can do before I get too old, LOL.

Just started a build on a Tikka T3x TAC A1 in 6.5 CDMR. Gonna put a VX-3i LRP 8.5-25x 50mm TMR FFP scope on it and see what happens. VERY interested in what people shooing either of these platforms are getting and how. And Now for my first Hoosier Joke...... Do you know why they built the Kennedy and now the Lincoln bridges across the Ohio River? SO Hoosiers could swim over in the shade.

Not a SPS Tactical, but I have a 26" Remington 700 SPS barrel action in a McMillan stock, I've gotten .53" at 110 yards with it during load development.

I'm putting together a Tikka as well. Mine's a 223 Varmint, just put it into an MDT chassis. Haven't mounted the scope on it yet.

What part of KY are ya? My remington was not so good and when, like an idiot, I sent it in on the recall for the trigger thing and when I got it back I could not get it down under 8 1/2 pounds. I know it was gonna suck, just not sure how much suck it would have, LOL. Ripped that factory crap out and put in a Timney, can't remember the model, and dialed it down. Now it shoot like a dream. Not able to build loads for them, yet, but shooting great with factory ammo.

If you're in Spencer county, then I'm just 1 county over, Jefferson County (Louisville).

Instead of sending my rifle in for the trigger recall, I replaced the factory trigger with a Jewell. Leaps and bounds better than the factory trigger.

I was shooting FGMM ammo out of my Remington, but I've had better accuracy out of hand loads. Still experimenting some with hand loads, but I'm pretty happy with the load I have so far.

I should have never sent it in. More curious the see what they did I guess. either way I would up better. My Remington has a 22" threade Bull Barrel and if I remeber a 1:10 twist. I saw ehere somebody was shooting a BlackHills NEW, not reman, round and was getting good results. I tried it and yeah it was okay. Did more research and found a guy in Alaska for christ sake shooint a Lapua made round. Don't have the specs here with me, but RAVED about it. I got some and he was right. Clover Leafed at 200 yards, with the new trigger. A 168 gr Solid copper ballistic tip if I remember correctly. Anyway I lived in St. Matthews and got out of Louisville like a rat off a sinking ship about 6 years ago.

Have a good day!

Florence here. I have a 26" Remington 700 SPS Police 308....used to shoot it out to 1000yds up at Thunder Valley. It has hit a mile...once...due to luck. I still shoot it occasionally. I built a 300PRC and haven't looked back. I'll build a 6.5 Creed this year for under 1000yd work...but I may use the 308 for some local matches if I can get time off from work.

I've played with 168gr A-Max's and shot the 175gr SMK for years...now I shoot a 168gr Match bullet from Everglades Ammo and I've had good luck with them and Varget powder.

Update: well I’ve kinda took a liking to the LR shooting. Decided to add another rifle. Few weeks away from having my MPA BA pmr in 6.5 PRC out of lay away. I’ve also recently gained access to some private property with a nice level range just short of 1100 yards! Can’t wait to get the new rifle up and going and trying it out!

You guys missed a wonderful day in Hazard, KY today. WOW. Just show up...back the truck up and make hits out to 1600 yards? What's not to like. Next time we go...I'd like to meet more of you guys down there. What a beautiful winter day we had 52F and sunny by afternoon. At times the wind was dead still.

Thanks @Luvman for doing all the driving...I owe ya. Now...time to process all this 300 PRC brass.
