New from mountains west of Franklin, NC

Just wanted to stop and say Hello. Found this web site 2 days ago. I was looking for actual user suggestions for a longer range .308 cartridge. At my age I prefer not to buy a new rifle so the only option is find out want experts are saying about a better hunting round. I focused in on the Berger Bullets Hybrid Jugg .308 Win 185gr.

I have always wanted to go out west and hunt Elk. At 66 years old and not getting any younger I think the time to do this is getting close. Plus a current medical diagnosis has lit a fire under my butt to do it sooner than later.

I have never really shot anything at a distance and I will be dead before North Carolina opens an Elk season. Then I am sure it will be better odds winning the powerfully that drawing a tag.

I will be reading alot rather than trying to post a stupid question because there has 80 threads posted on the same subject but, sometimes I can help myself. Be gentle and I will try to learn.

To be fair, most of us will be dead before NC has an elk tag.

But yeah, I think the heavier .308s do a little better in the wind.

Problem with .308 is slow MV. Best at 400 yards and less.

Here is some musical accompaniment.
