So I bought a new scope, I think it should be here next week. It's a nightforce NXS 5.5-22X56. NP-R1 w/ 1/4 MOA adjustments.
Right now I have a Leupold Mark 4 10X40 LR/T w/ M3 knobs (1MOA adjustments) This is the only scope I've had on the rifle and feel like I shoot well with it. I really don't stand a chance at the match anyway as I'm a total nooblet. So should I go ahead and switch it ? Or should I at least for this match stick w/ what I know.

Thanks

Ryan

Re: New Glass before a match?

I was in a similiar situation a couple weeks ago.

How long before the match? If a week or so out, and you have time to go to the range to get sighted, I would go ahead and change out.

If no time, then "run what ya brung". That's what I ended up doing.

Hmmm, tough call. Like Tallshot mentioned if you have time to get your zero and make sure your tracking is perfect then I'd take a chance on the new scope since your settings for each distance should be the same.

If you're going to use the match as a learning session then the new scope once it's set up would be a great place to also get some pointers on it.

I've never had anything that had the coolness factor at a match, we usually get snickers or rolled eyes when we show up with our junk but depending on what type of shooters will be at the match you're going to attend that new scope might get you better received and offers for pointers.

Good luck at the competition, nice to see you are going to the match to learn and have fun. Nice to take matches seriously but also have to enjoy the day no matter how you do and learn something each time you shoot.

Just take your scope and use it for this match and for at least long enough to make an informed decision about which scope to buy next. While your at the match ask the fellow shooters if you can get behind their scopes to see what features you like and don't like.Ask them what they would buy if they had to do it over again and what they don't like about their current scope.

Oops,I was thinking about someone els's post as I wrote this.Enjoy your NF when it comes in.

Re: New Glass before a match?

Personally I would run the new one. No better way to break it in like at a match. Sight it in and things before you go, and winning is fun but no the main point of all things, just have fun with it.

Who knows, you might go in with it and smack some hoes around.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: New Glass before a match?

Run the new scope, the first problem you might run into is TOOO much power will make it harder to get a good sight picture acquire targets quickly, you might just want to use it in the 12X range.
Make a range card for the new scope and have a great time, and some bragging rights for some nice gear, LOL.
Enjoy, SScott

Re: New Glass before a match?

Okay, I have another question, I had a hard time searching for this.

I have the NP-R1 and it's FFP. So if I see something though the scope and it's 1 hash mark that's 1 MOA regardless of the power right? That's the big deal w/ the FFP right?
