Greetings! I've been moving constantly for a few years, and last stop before I retire is NJ....the state that never met a gun law they didn't like. Have been shooting for three years as time permits. Don't have a bunch of money sunk into gear at present. Noreen Assassin .30-06 with a Bushy Elite Tac XRS FFP MRAD (4.5-30) on top..I liked the idea of a "modern Garand", A Ruger Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor with an Athlon Cronus (4.5-29), and building an AR in .244 Valkyrie with a JP barrel...waiting delivery on barrel, and researching glass. I don't get to shoot long range often because it is a 3.5 hour drive to the Mifflin County Sportsman's Association to get out to 1,000 yds. I know precisely jack, and am here to learn what I can from you fine folk in an effort to become a better shooter, and hopefully contribute something along the way, even if it is sharing "what not to do". Thanks for the read.... Groll

Welcome from NY. While I’ve not been on the forum long I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge. Enjoy the reading.

Judging by your location a good AR carbine with as many mags and ammo as you can muster would be a better choice to fight your way out and head south.
Joking aside welcome.
An AR without a muzzle device, bayonet lug, grenade launcher, adjustable or fold-able stock, and 10 whole rounds in the mag. South is precisely where I will go when I am done working.

You have entered the "guns are evil" tri-state region of NY, NJ and Connecticut, Groll. I'm in NJ also and just shake my head in disbelief at the continued and relentless attacks by clueless politicians on the rights of responsible firearms owners.

I feel your pain regarding the time and effort required to spend time shooting. There are some options for ranges with one of those options being University Rifle Club in Pennsylvania. From central NJ it's still about a two hour drive but on a weekday, with few folks on the range, you can shoot out to 600 yds.

Thanks! Have not been to University Rifle....what town are they in? Long waiting list? Have been on the waiting list at New Holland since 2015. Was a guest there shooting and loved the place, but apparently more popular than Pizza and Beer. Get to the place a few times a year as a spectator.....perhaps this year my number will come up...
