Im trying to decide on a new scope for a hunting rifle. Looking to stay under $900 so I am strongly considering the Nightforce SHV 3-10 and the Vortex Razor HD LH 2.5-10.
Neither has a zero stop I have the SHV and have only one concern with it, NF does not guarantee it will be waterproof with the cap removed. However, I have had mine off in the rain with no problems. It is hard to beat this scope at the price point. No experience with the Vortex LH.
Yeah, I'm not concerned about the lack of a zero stop, I'm looking at capped turrets anyway. Trying to keep the weight down too as it's going to sit on top of a 6lb rifle. I wanted something with good glass, great build quality, a useable reticle, and the ability to spin the elevation turret if the opportunity presents itself.
This scope is replacing a Leupold VX3i with the exposed elevation turret that I was just not pleased with.
I have the viper 2.5-10 and it's been a solid hunting scope. The glass is good, positive clicks and the illumination is nice. My only complaint is the reticle gets too small at low power but that's a small issue for where I hunt.
For a 6lb rifle, I would go with the Vortex Razor LH. Thats what I put on my Kimber MT that was 5lb 9oz. Great combo. Haven't had a chance to get much time spinning the turrets to see how they do yet though. Glass and weight is great. I really like the reticle (not the BDC reticle).
