New kelbly atlas tactical action

Available for shipment 08/25/2014 is the new Atlas Tactical action.
Features are a 416 RS body with a 4140 Bolt Body with a TIG welded 420 bolt handle.
Available in Short Action for .308 cases and .532 cases.
Accepts both the AICS or AW Magazines.
Features our "Never Fail" TG Ejector, Fluted Bolt, APA Tactical Bolt Knob, and Dual Pin Recoil Lug.
We have upgraded the Bolt Stop Screw to be "hammer proof" to take the beating tactical shooters put on there bolt stops cycling rounds.
We have also pinned the 20 MOA Picatinny Rail, so that it is just like an integral rail.
We top it all off with a Salt Bath Nitride Coating, trade name is Melonite. This allows shooters to use their bolts dry, so that dust and grit does not stick to the bolt.
This action was optimized for the practical/tactical shooters by feedback from shooters in the field.
Action will retail at $1200.

yes they do. Kelblys atlas actions are tits folks. Very high quality, and straight dead nutz straight. I worry a little bit about the heat from the melonite, but everyone I have talked to about this says its safe. I think im going to bite and buy one. Lee

I melonited my first action back in 2008. Been running it ever since. It's an FTR rig in .308 with over 8,000 rounds on it. High pressure loads, testing, and blown primers in the action. Never had a problem with it. All the testing we have done with Melonite have shown no shift of trueness of degradation, or brittleness. They work very smooth and we are happy to have a package like this to offer.

The only issue with the Atlas action is in a chassis, you will have to open up the action inlet to accommodate the trigger hanger.

The Atlas is a great action, very well machined, runs nice n smooth. The TG ejector works great, esp for short case cartridges like BR, 221, 300BLK. No issues with brass in the raceway or dented necks like you can somtimes have with traditional spring ejectors. We have built a handfull of rifles with the Kelblys actions and have been very pleased with there price and performance.

My shooting partner runs an Atlas single shot, and I have a repeater. They are excellent actions without a doubt, and will likely continue to by my first choice when it comes to a build. Looking under the couch cushions right now...

Ian, any expectation of providing these in a repeater with a 223 bolt face?

Also, the pinned picatinny rail. Is it only pinned with one pin? In the photos it looks like its only the rear part of the action that has the "pin hole"

It is pinned in the back with one pin. This will stop the rail from sliding around if the screws ever start to come loose.

Quick question, what is the bolt throw angle? Picture looks like it might be 90 degrees but it would be awesome if it's 60 degrees.

It is a 90 degree bolt throw like a Remington. We are running .005" of bolt clearance in these instead of .002". We flute the bolt to help with debris. This will push the debris into the flutes and away from critical areas.

Next time we run a batch of Atlas Tactical actions, we will run a batch of .223 actions as well.

The trigger hanger is a great addition for match shooters no more banging and beating on your gun to get out the trigger pins in the middle of a match if your trigger goes down, which happens quite often.

The extractor is bullet proof and we like the design of the ejector, it doesn't put tension on the case when its in the chamber which should enhance accuracy.

Ian, or anyothers who might know.

I have two atlas builds. My 300WM is a hunting arm, also have Dasher for F-Class. Love both by the way! The 300WM is a hunting arm, and I live in a pretty wet environment. I'd like to get it coated. That said, did you adjust the tolerances for these tactical builds? Mine is super tight, which is great, but don't see how any coating would work, for sure not any paint. The Melonite process looks like a good option, just wondering if this would work and still function on a :normal" atlas.

I would not coat the bolt, if you wanted to get the action painted then be sure the inside of the action is not coated. It might not look the best but will run smooth. I really like melonited actions and find them to the smoothest actions ive ran.

Kelbly has always turned out killer products! Many years ago I had a Grizzly II repeater barreled by Kelby's with a Hart 30" in 6.5X284 it was in a Lone Wolf stock with a Jewell trigger. I also had it set up with Kelbly's scope rings that rifle was a hammer for about 1200 rounds and just a phone call to Kelblys had it back killing it again. I never had to send the rifle in. This Atlas reminds me of my Grizzly II, I miss that rifle well all but the barrel eating caliber haha.

Man is that PURTY stuff right their and glad to see some more pictures of these posted up. I will be calling you on 1 of these. Received my action today from OTM and Mark was a super fellow to deal with over the phone. When payment was received action was shipped out with no delay. As always from the Kelblys, action is first class all the way and any who order 1 will be very happy. These are a hell of a deal, the coating was perfect and the bolt glides back and forth very smooth. The action also came with a tube of lug grease and stainless receiver screws. Not that it makes a difference but the only thing i would like to see is the pic rail on top of the receiver be comepletely closed off on top like on the Defiance actions and not have a small space open between the rail and top of receiver.

BTW: Ian, could you do a Kodiak with the 20moa pic rail, same bolt nose and features as the Atlas Tactical, melonited and use a DBM like a Seekins for it. Or would it only except a BDL type system for feeding as a repeater? Could you also keep the same bolt to raceway clearance typical on a Kodiak with it melonited and not have any binding issues?

Yes....does not have to be melonited but would like same bolt nose configuration as Atlas Tactical, RB RP, 20moa pic rail and use a Seekins DBM. I would have the action cerokoted and would like the handle threaded to install what bolt knob i wanted.

Guys,

We can make the Kodiak Action with a 20 MOA Rail. We can also cut the magazine to accept AICS and AW magazines. We cannot melonited the Kodiak body, because it is aluminum. We can coat the bolt though.
The nice thing about the Kodiak is the Picatinny Rail and Recoil Lug is integral.

The rail on the Atlas Tactical has a chamfer. That's why it has the gap.

I bought an Atlas Left hand long action earlier this year with Meloniting it is smooth. Mine came with the bolt handle style typical of a Kelby (no complaints) and i did not get the fluted bolt option, because they understand field vs. bench requirements .005" of bolt clearance instead of .002" i also selected the TG ejector one for simplicity the other reason i can't short stroke a long round. In order to eject the brass with a TG you need to pull it all the way back until the pin engages the ejector.

I am happy with the action.
