there is a brief article in Shooting Times today about a new "Generation 4" scope mount from Springfield Armory. It looked a lot better than their prior, efforts, and isn't as expensive as some of the after-market mounts. Anyone seen or tried one?

Re: new M1A scope mount

Save your time and money . Just bite the bullet and go with an Arms#18 , Sadlak or a Smith Enterprises unit. Springfield builds some sweet platforms but they haven't got the hang of optic mounts. If you check around you can pick up a used unit as cheap or for less than a Springfield, you won't be disappointed.

Re: new M1A scope mount

I have had a arms #18 mount for two years, and have had no problems with poi shift. Every once and a while a empty piece of brass will hit the front of the mount and cause a jam. I think that has only happened about five or six times.

Not all SAI recievers are created equal, meaning they ain't all mi-spec. Roll the dice with an aftermarket mount, or just send your rifle to Sadlak and let them custom fit one to it.

Re: new M1A scope mount

I run the Sadlak titanium scope mounts on both my M1As and am a very happy camper with them. Sadlak also has great customer service and you will talk to knowledgable people on the phone when you call there. So a big "Thumbs up" for Sadlak mounts.

Re: new M1A scope mount

I've had real good luck with the Bassett low picatinny mount. Mounts with one bolt. Only way to go if you like to switch between irons and optics. PS. I have a Springfield Gen.3 mount I'd let go, cheap.

Re: new M1A scope mount

Springfield Armory, Inc. came out with its M1A Fourth Generation scope mount last year. It is available in aluminum (model MA4GENAM) or steel (model MA5028). It's a split rail with five rail slots at each end. Some folks like that design but I prefer a full rail over the receiver. FWIW

The rear end of the steel model is secured by a dovetail key. The aluminum mount uses a substitute cartridge clip guide and large hex head screw at the rear end. The steel version lacks a horizontal key but the aluminum version does not and neither has a vertical key.

Personally, I'll spend more to get a Sadlak Industries or Smith Enterprise scope mount.
