spanky new member...been professionally smithing for quite a while but doing vintage falling block single shot builds vs. bolt guns. Starting to build a rifle that fits this site so joined up. Any of you guys have any experience with the Pierce Engineering actions? Mine should arrive in 3-4 weeks...short single shot action .308 bolt face. Everything but the action in hand already. Rifle will be a 6.5 Creedmoor, Kreiger barrel,HS Precision PSC023 stock, Jewell trigger. Will try and post photos of the build once I cypher out how to do so.

Re: New Member...New build...Pierce action

Sounds like a good setup. I don't have a Pierce yet but have been looking at them, primarily the TI action for a lighter weight hunting rig.

Re: New Member...New build...Pierce action

after barreling falling block single shots for years and dealing with extractor cuts, timing octagon barrels, etc the install on the 700 type actions will be a pleasant experience.

Indeed.

After having met John, seeing his operation, and playing with his actions you should have no problems and if you do John will make it right.

Re: New Member...New build...Pierce action

I've got an "older" Pierce SA repeater in chromoly and I've been happy with it for the last 1500-1700 rounds in my 7mm WSM build. It's pretty beefy and dimensionally consistent, not too expensive, with option of titanium (as mentioned before) if weight's a concern. Has an 18 TPI tennon instead of Remington standard 16. All threaded holes are thread milled and are blind holes except the barrel tennon. The bolt (looks like a 2-piece PTG, w/ Sako extractor to me) runs smooth after some break-in on the cerakote. Seems much nicer than the factory Remington receivers I've had experience with.

I just made a brake for it this last weekend:

Re: New Member...New build...Pierce action

Thanks for the feedback guys...my action is due very soon.
McFred.....ordered my action in the white so the cerakote/break in shouldn't be a concern. I'm way out on a limb even building a bolt gun...with stainless barrel...synthetic stock etc. My norm is blued steel, color case hardening and fine walnut attached to a vintage single shot. I'm going to catch a load of grief!
