Hunting & Fishing New Mexico Mule Deer Hunt with Pictures

Just got back from North Eastern New Mexico on a Mule Deer hunt. I got my first Mule Deer ever this year! This was a do it yourself hunt on a 17000 acre ranch. Six of us went and everyone got a buck. There are a couple of Hide members in the group picture.

I saw my buck at 650 yards on a canyon wall with 2 other bucks. I decided to try and stalk to within 300 yards for the shot. Ended up shooting him at 280 yards with a left handed Tikka T3 in 300 WSM using Federal 150 gr ballistic tips. I hit him right behind the shoulder and he ran about 30 yards a died.

I was with hide member Sleeper when he shot his buck. He shot it at 404 yards while the buck was laying down, right at dark. He has a Sako in 300 WSM topped with the new 3x9 FFP Super Sniper. He dialed it in for 400 yards. The buck was laying down facing away from us and all we could see was the bucks butt and neck. He aimed for the base of the bucks neck and hit it in the top of one hip and it went all the way through him to the opposite shoulder. Dead Right There! Federal 165 gr Trophy Bonded Tip, at 404 yards, went through him end to end!

Wow! The two in the middle look real nice, I really like the heavy dark horned one center right. Looks like you guys had an amazing hunt, congrats.

Great buck! Is the buck on teh far left in the top picture missing one antler? Broken off or what? Or am I just not seeing it?

Yeah, he made a quick impulse shot on the buck and it turned out it had broken off one of his antlers! Real bummer!
