I thought that New Mexico had some of the most stringent gun laws in the country? How did 3 people get shot and killed and a bunch more wounded at a unauthorized car show at some park yesterday?Thats odd.

The surprising results are because people are under the delusion that outlaws obey the law (hint, the name outlaw excludes following the law.)

Or, the gun laws are intentionally enacted so that only criminals have guns, back to the whole outlaw thing.

Or, the people who vote these gun laws are in are just plain mentally challenged.

I’m not sure how to make this show up without clicking on it, but it shows how dumb these people are.

Really? I carry concealed there, open carry is unrestricted (unlike until recently it's neighbor to the east). Take suppressors there as well. What makes their laws "the most restrictive in the nation"?

Gun laws don’t correlate with crime rates.

We have really strict locations in the US with relatively-low homicide rates (Massachusetts), and really relaxed gun law regions with extremely high homicide rates (AR, LA, MS, GA, SC, NC).

We have really relaxed gun infringement States with some of the lowest homicide rates in the Nation as well (ID, UT, VT, NH, ME).

People on “both sides of the argument” get it wrong because the truth is an orphan.

The real causal factor in homicide rates is.....drum roll.......demographics.

The brutal, harsh statistics can’t be argued with.

If you live in regions with high concentration of certain demographics, they are more dangerous, especially if you share demographics with the primary offenders. The thing that jumped out at me most was Indian Reservations out here in the West. I have lived all over the Deep South, so I was already keenly aware of that from experience.

You can say people who are from more primitive, tribal ancestry that are born into or form more tribal networks, foster conditions that result in the highest homicide rates in the United States. Assault, rape, property crimes, substance abuse, and narcotics trafficking are also extremely high among these demographics.

This is undeniable among:

Blacks
Native Americans on tribal reservations
Latinos who go tribal, including Cubans in South Florida
Appalachian Whites in KY and WV

The thing I find interesting is the Latinos in rural West Texas who are farmers and well-integrated into Texan culture. Very low homicide rates.

Mexican, El Salvadoran, and Venezuelan gangs? Extremely high rates of homicide.

fair point. my area has a bunch of black farmers and some cattle/horse men. not any notable crime. the urban areas? not the same.

And that is why I say it is cultural. It is not a skin color but a culture.

Cultures that grew out of agricultural societies are more organized and polite precisely because of the management of limited resources. The harvest of crops has to last through the non-growing season, which requires planning and cooperation.

As opposed to a culture built on conquest.

Rural people or people who live in areas where there is a connection with nature’s seasons, storms, beauty, and terror are more tightly-knit.

Urbanized societies are disassociated with the fundamental connection to the earth and each other, with all kinds of artificial realities that get between them and the earth.

I haven’t seen many things bring people closer than natural disasters or fires.

there was someone who wrote an article, study or something positing cities as being mankind's biggest problem. wish i could find it or remember where i saw it. wasn't Jared Diamond. but,he did say that he thought the development of agriculture was man's biggest mistake. am kinda +/- on Diamond but he does have some interesting things to say.

Once a city exceeds 50,000 population, anonymity encourages crime, as there is less accountability.

Small towns have the benefit of everyone knowing each other, so kids learn from the day they can walk that many people who know their parents will see most of what they do. There is a lot more accountability, as long as most are gainfully employed.

I live approximately 25 miles from where this shooting occurred.and familiar with the park where it occurred. Most likely gang related and in NM its a multi-generational thing for certain portions of the community. Doing time in the state penitentiary is a right of passage. The thing that really set off an increase in crime in NM was the the constitutional amendment for bail reform which basically created a revolving door whereby perps are back on the street before LEO's have finished the paperwork. No doubt all of those involved have long rap sheets and well known to local law enforcement.

I thought the Gov there wanted to ban carry altogether?Didnt she ban something for a month then overturn it or maybe I have the wrong state?
