Good for them. That the beuty of being able to pick and choose what you buy. I just hope a few guys save a lil money and heartache by not buying these sub par built scopes.

I have ran all of those and never had problems like with all the loopy's.

Broke every Loopy I have ever owned save one. A friend has it and it seems to run fine.

To date, I have yet to have a Mark 4 go tits up on me. I can't say that for NF, though I think they are good scopes for what they are. Have only owned one USO and haven't had it long enough to comment on durability, but so far it is good and tracks/returns to zero like a champ.

Not at all. Just stating that I wasn't. I have been to a few matches lately where people really ran down certain scopes and talked up others. After listening to the same horse shit for a day or two, it becomes obvious that the conversations are nothing more than rehearsed ads and I imagine that the same thing goes on here.

If I were getting optics advice over the internet, I would want to know it was biased only by experiences and not $$$.

Ive had a very positive experience with my MK4 leupy, it's always done what I asked and hasn't come apart... I look after my gear though so that might have something to do with that

The MIL reticle / MOA knob bastard is what brought me to change to USO.
ST10: Ergo upgrade, 44mm obj, 30mm tube, EREK 1/10 MIL, #3 US 1/10 MIL windage. 2" sunshade + ARD & Flip covers.

I know how you feel changing over from a variable to fixed power scope, I do alot of hunting with my rifle but even then I found it to generally be set around the 10x mark much more than anything else... If we see something right up close we'll normally let it run and hopefully catch a glimpse of it later at a good distance, otherwise it's just not challenging. For me, the bolt gun fills a gap between 150m and 900m.

Alot of people tend to slam USO for breaking bits and dodgey QC but at the end of the day you only ever hear the bad things... Like anything else, the happy customers are probably out shooting or doing something else.

Make up your mind and commit to a purchase, if it doesn't work out... There are always options.

Looking after your gear has absolutely shit to do with the internals going tits up. I "look after" my gear too.

My favorite was when I was actually living in Portland.... one of my 8.5-25 Mark 4's elevation stopped adjusting. It just wouldn't move. Walked it into the shop that afternoon. After I explained that I used the scope for long range shooting and it was "stuck" at 850 yards. The tech thought for a second and told me although these scopes were not designed for a lot of knob turning and such that he was gonna take care of my and fix it anyway.

Hmmm, a Mark 4 isn't made to have the knobs adjusted.

I haven't used a mag scope, currently I am 10x now with the super sniper.

My expierience, having had 5 USO, 4 of which wouldn't track even after sending 2 of them back and being told they were "close enough". I didn't bother sending the other two back.

Now having 3 NF scopes, 2 F1s and a 5.5-22, all which track perfectly and the glass is better than my USOs to my eye, I can say from my personal expierience and my money spent that I wouldn't own another USO.

I am biased in wanting a scope that works. I spend too much time and money traveling to shoot to have a scope that lets me down.

I wathced SKRanger win the Idaho State Sniper championshp with an NF.

I have a 9year old ST-10 - it's worked flawless for 9 years and got me in 7th (Woulda been 3rd but I had a no-shooting partner) in that same ISSC match.

I've shot through a loopy 16x and had better luck with a Tasco.

Everyone's experience is different, although that does suprise me about the USO internals...

I've shot mine out to 1000 yards once a month and back to 100/200 every month and never had a problem tracking, always on the paper at 1000 first time.

AL, I wasn't saying every scope that USO puts out is like that but just saying those have been my expieriences and they haven't been good. Sounds like you have a good one so you should keep it.

Actually after I stopped using my USOs and started using my S&B, which I had at the time, my placing at matches started to go up. Not sure if it's from shooting more or just getting the elevation on the scope I need to hit the target when I dialed it or a combination of both.

I think alot of people don't even know if their scopes work or not and that's not just with USOs. They shoot them out to 200-300 yards, where those differences in my problem scopes would have only been off a few inches, and just write it off to ammo velocity. They don't do tracking tests at 100 yards every 5 MOA out to 35-40 MOA or every mil out to 10 mils or so to see if there is anything wrong. I do it with every scope I get because I only have a 400 yard range but I go shoot on 1000+ yard ranges and need my ballistic calcualator and scope to be on.

That is a 5% difference that, as Rob01 pointed out, isn't alot, but will bite you in the ass at distance.

Regardless of scope, the .1 mil knobs are the way to go with a mil reticle.

Don't let the hatred scare you, having had both scopes, you won't go wrong either way. It's really a win/win.

I am going to give the other option. If you are only going to shoot to 300 on the range, save the money and buy a Vortex Viper or Sightron SIII with mil dots. Spend the saved money on bullets and shoot! 300 yards is 1 mil from a 100 yard zero or 3.4 moa. Not a big deal and either of these scopes will accurately track for you. You will not see a difference with any of the "better" suggested scopes at that range.

I have actually looked into the Sightron, and the 750.00 price does make it tempting.

Now, go find a Vortex Viper 6.5-20 and look at it. Either 44 or 50 mil for less than $500 and Very nice. If you were going to be shooting 600 plus and unknown range, I would make other suggestions, but at 300 at a known distance there is no need to spend the money unless you want to own one of the premiere scopes... which I can understand too...

I tell you what, after reading this, I'm now somewhat concerned about my recent USO purchase. I come from shooting BR and am just venturing into the Tactical and F T/R world. And, like most, I started off with the Leupolds. A while back, after looking through the NFs at the range, I traded the Leupolds in for my first NF. Well, AGGs went down, groups got smaller, and they all tracked better. Now, after getting sick of cranking on elevation knobs, I decided to go with a USO SN3 3-17 for a tactical build. It was between the USO and March, and I'm now wondering if I'll be let down.

Coming from a world of where a scope failure is identified by groups opening up from .1s to .2s, or .2s to .3s, a good reliable scope is of the utmost importance. You can spend MANY hours chasing a tenth of an inch, not ever once suspecting your glass. Lots of guys are switching to the March scopes, and they do offer a tactical version. They are very reliable optics too.

Well after typing all that, I have to say, you cannot go wrong with a NF. The only problem I got tired of was turning and turning on an elevation knob. If you are keeping it at or under 300m, you won't be doing a lot of elevation correction anyways. I won't be able to speak on the behalf of the USO, as I won't have it for a while, but I sincerely hope that I don't have the problems that others have had with a 2700 dollar scope. For that kind of money you can buy the top of the line March and it is so clear that it resolves 6mm bullet holes in the black at 600 meters.

For now, my vote goes to NF. That may change after the first of the year.

It's 1/2 an inch AT 1000 yds. It ain't going to bite you in the ass unless you let it....mentally.

It's not 5% of the distance. It's 5% of 10 inches, more than 10 inches. Which is 1/2 inch. 10 x .05 = .5 .5 inches. .5 + 10 = 10.5". People don't need to get hung up on that difference when shooting tactical. Or even benchrest @ 1000. Your super-fine crosshairs are as thick as that at 1000 yds.

The difference in IPHY and MOA at 1000 yards is definately more than .5", unless you are using something REALLY flat shooting. Either way, it doesn't matter since the reticle and knobs match on the USO.

Don't be. <span style="font-weight: bold">EVERY</span> scope maker has had / will have an issue now and then (yes, even NF). I don't doubt the shooters chiming in in this thread who have had issues with USO, nor do I doubt those who have had issues with NF.

There are plenty of people on this site who are more than happy with their USOs, me being one of them (and I have 2). The elevation knobs on each get cranked on all the time. They track correctly and the glass is quite nice, and they have the features I like. NFs are also nice... isn't it great that we have so many nice options?

Don't be concerned in the least with your choice, enjoy the rest of the long wait

I don't know much about vortex, I did see the video of the new HD, but I always thought they made cheap stuff. "This is my opinion based off their aimpoint knock off" I don't think I would consider them, even if they had good glass I would probably be unhappy since Im set on a NF or USO. So what is the bottom line on Vortex?

For those that are having trouble with the math,

1 moa = 1.047" at 100 yards
1 iphy = 1.00 at 100 yards

36 moa = 37.69" at 100 yards
36 iphy = 36.00 at 100 yards

36 moa = 376.9" at 1000 yards
36 iphy = 360.0" at 1000 yards

You just missed the shot and are wondering why?

I see what you're saying. You are referring to the total difference in error for elevation adjustment. Not the actual linear deviation.

I see where I'm off in the calculation. I've always just shot and made note of what it took. So, I never calculated the error. I just compensated without knowing it.

Edit:

My 7x57 that I usually shoot at 1000 takes 28.25 MOA to get there from a 300 yd. zero (4.5" high @ 100). So that would be about a 14", or so, overshot if not corrected {edit: inches to MOA}. My scope is a Leupy 6.5-20 x40. Built back when Leupold had a better reputation.

Kelbly's is the only importer that I am aware of. Try the forums over at 6mmbr.com, search for March. They are discussed like USOs and S&Bs are discussed here. Apparently they are the holy grail of BR optics, and now offer a tactical version.

I recently saw one sell on ebay. It had a similar elevation knob as the EREK. Never seen one in person.

You aren't kidding. And I'm under the impression it isnt transferable too. However, from what I've read, not a single one has failed to date. Don't quote me on that as that is only forum rumors.

I'm sure Kelbly's would take care of any issue that arose. But still, only five years.

USO's is simple, if it says USO, they will fix it.

NF has a reputation of standing behind their product ad well, either products warranty should exceede your expectations or needs.

The Sightron S3 6-24x50MD I had was the straw that drove me to my first USO. Until then I had never paid more than $360.00 for a scope.

My S3 had problems with poor image witnessed by a number of regular shooting buddies. The glass never looked as good as my old Nikon Monarch UCC 6.5-20x44. It also did not hold focus through the power range. A few replacements later and still no satisfaction....it was returned and the USO was ordered.

I didn't think much of the small knobs and small markings, nor the set-screw turrets. It had limited adjustment range at only 50MOA, and it was SFP. I hear the newer models have more adjustment range.

I now own 2 USO's, an SN-3 3.2-17x44 with EREK and an SN-4 1.5-6 with slimline covers, and I am very pleased with both.

If I were you I would get a Bushnell 3200 10x, Super Sniper, or Falcon, and shoot it while you save up for what you really want......or until you discover you don't want any more scope.

My S3 had problems with poor image witnessed by a number of regular shooting buddies. The glass never looked as good as my old Nikon Monarch UCC 6.5-20x44. I think you are the first person I've heard of not liking the S3's.

Anybody else have problems with them?
