Photos New paint scheme: Is it a Go or No Go?

At first it started out as a touch-up, but then I tried something different. I'm about a quarter of the way done with the gun and am on the fence on whether or not to continue in this fashion. Thoughts?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the purpose is to break up the outline( can't tell if it does since it is sitting on a solid color), does it?

Is a cool look the objective?

All of my previous spray jobs were done free hand with very subtle blending between colors. This was my first shot at using natural veg and distinct lines.

Re: New paint scheme: Is it a Go or No Go?

I've never painted a rifle to get anyone's approval/disproval but rather to have it blend in with the environment. Now that I'm old and fat I don't care if they blend in or not. My question to you would be, does the paint serve a purpose or is it to just look cool? Either way your opinion is the only one that matters as it's your stick.

Re: New paint scheme: Is it a Go or No Go?

All depends on your AO. Have some pics where you are hunting/shooting at? That will really dictate whether your camo scheme works well.

To me the colors look too ACU ish and after wearing the uniform in the sand box on two tours and running around Ft Hood TX and Camp Guernsey I still haven't found an AO that ACU works well in other then gravel or sage brush. Just my 2 cents.

If you're stalking around in Sage you are probably golden.

Looks cool- no
would serve it purpose for hunting-yes

I think its good to go even though its not a professional looking job. I remember all the spray canned m40's in the marine corps that looked horrible, but worked well to break up the outline.

Re: New paint scheme: Is it a Go or No Go?

If you really want that foliage/leaf green, maybe you should try reversing the colors (order of application). Remember, the leaves are green, not the background. That may be less "harsh" to the eye, and suit your AO a bit more appropriately.

That much bright green just seems too sub-tropical-jungle-like for most areas. Go on out back, and set it in the woods, forest, range, or lawn where you intend to blend in. Back up a hundred feet and look at the rifle. How does it look to YOU? Only you have the actual perception of the colors in the field, so only you can say if the whole thing really is a "Go or No Go".

Good luck. At least you're giving it an effort.

Just saw the the photos of the green rifle. I must say NO!! NO NO NO!!! I can think of only a few places where it is that green! You are better off with wrapping your stick with colored yarn, seriously!!

Spend a lot of time in central IL, do ya?

With the exception of the '88 drought, the landscape can be pretty full of vibrant greens for about 4 months in late spring/early summer. FDE/tan is king in fall and early spring. White/gray/arctic is good to go for about 2 or 3 months. And at times, a mixture of all 3 schemes would work.

Also, one might consider the difference in the color of the pictures above to be the effects of poor camera work

Only you know the area of operations and if that suits you then that's all that matters. I have a couple of builds going on as we speak and one of them is going to be an all green digital using different shades much in the same manner as you did.

Re: New paint scheme: Is it a Go or No Go?

i would use that as a base and using grasses hit it with lighter colors over the top so there are only small amounts of that green coming through. i would also use some brown aswell a small amount on it. Just think of it as you have started with an OD base i would not cover it completly just add to is and lighten most of it a lot and then use some brown earth to add contrast.
