Since finishing the Gen II iteration of the SENTINEL stocks in 2013, I have not been pleased with the D550 pads that Pachmayr was supplying.

The basic material and shape was close to what I wanted but I was having persistent QC issues with the consistency of the profile matching the rest of the LOP components. The hard plastic base plate would also be sensitive to cracking when assembling with any reasonable torque on the 1/4-28 bolts.

About 3 years ago I started an elusive goal of designing a pad and then having it made in the U.S.
At first this seemed impossible due to the price of a custom mold and minimum runs needed by the usual domestic suppliers.

Last year, I finally got some traction with experienced injection mold engineers willing to look at my CAD file and then harassed the shit out of their management until we had a plan. Last month, I received the first run of recoil pads and I am very pleased with the result.

I have already been shipping complete rifles and stocks with the new pads in the past 3 weeks. Now I am comfortable making it a permanent part of the program.

This project was expensive and scary as hell.
I know it is just a simple recoil pad but it is a very visible and key part in a stock/rifle project that is important to me.
The initial expense of executing this project will be more than offset by using the same pad on current and 3 other new stock projects that are in the works.

I am sharing this with the community in hopes that others are encouraged with projects that you are on the fence with. Regardless of whether your part needs to be turned, milled or molded, keep looking, researching and asking questions. If you are persistent you will be able to get your ideas off of the drawing board and into your hands.

Those look absolutely fantastic. In my opinion, the KMW Sentinel is without a doubt, one of the most developed and well thought out stocks on the market. Its cool to see that the design is still evolving and Terry is still looking to improve on the quality and function of his product. I would like to get my hands on one of these stocks someday.

These look amazing and with all KMW products they will deliver!!! Thanks Terry for all your time, money and knowledge you've put into the wonderful tactical community. Your integrity is inspirational!!

Are these available for purchase?
Yes, they are available for purchase but you may not want to do so.

These are molded to an exact footprint profile that is intended to merge with LOP spacers and base plates for the SENTINEL stocks and other stock projects. The material used in the molding process is exceptional for the job we want the pad to do but is not really easy to grind/sand.

This pad is also designed to work with 1/4-28 retaining bolts instead of the smaller fasteners usually seen in these applications.

If you were considering this pad for use on a different stock, I would be afraid you would be disappointed in the results after forcing a lot of change into this.

Thank you for asking.

Thanks for the reply, Terry. I actually have a sentinel stock that i bought on the PX. Is this a fairly simple change out of the old one, and how do I buy one if it is? I didn’t see them on your website.
