I’m a long time shooter and have had friends generically reload for me. I‘d like to explore PRS. I’ve spectated at several matches in WI/IL. So, I have decided to invest in reloading for myself. Have been around the RCBS and Redding T-7 systems in use.

I have about 2000 pieces of 6 CM (once or twice fired) and about 350 pieces of 6.5 PRC (once fired).

My dilemma is which gauges to invest in. I have 2 sets of calipers and a standard 1 inch micrometer (not a ball/anvil type). Some considerations:

1. LE Wilson case gauge with the depth micrometer

2. Forster datum dial gauge

3. Hornady Headspace comparator

4. Hornady concentricity tool

During my collage years, I worked in a machine shop, so I’m aware of the variations/limitations of calipers. For this reason, I think I’d vote 1 then 2 then 3. But I’d really love to hear some opinions. Is there anything I’m missing or should consider?

Thanks, I appreciate the input.

Jeff

Get 3, it’s all you’ll need.

1- plunk gauge sucks and only tells you if everything passes or fails, not what actually fails.

2- basically a fancy expensive version of 3

4- you’ll never actually need this, it’s nice to satisfaction a curiosity but a money drain more than anything that’ll sit on the shelf after the first week.

Agree with @spife7980, the Hornady tool is ok and I've used one myself for years, that said Short Action Customs makes this same tool only way nicer. https://www.shortactioncustoms.com/modular-headspace-comparator-inserts-1

While you're getting # 3, pick up the inserts for measuring base to ogive (sp) of bullet..............Using the tip to base method for over all length will have you chasing you re tail with some bullets.
