First time at attempting to post with a pic. Had a friend of mine put this together for me. Rem. 700 short action .308, 21" Shilen barrel, Bell and Carlson stock (floated and bedded), 2lb trigger. 6 coats of Duracoat Woodland Tan Ultra Flat Tactical. Weighing in at close to 13.5 pounds. Holding 4.5" group at 600 yards. Anyone living in South Carolina (Florence area) interested in custom builds of any caliber, action, etc. PM me and I'll give you the contact info. Haters, take it easy on me... this is a helluva lot more rifle than I have ever owned or fired. Did some time as a USMC DM and this rifle is more fun to shoot than any I ever fired in the Corps.

Re: New rifle build...

Looks good, alot like my first precision rifle. You will need a shorter bipod with adjustments for cant built in, Harris makes one for around $100 but academy sports has a good knock off with knob for around $40.

Re: New rifle build...

Planning on having a Harris within the next few weeks. The bipod on it now is a Winchester from Wally World I took off one of my .22s. Trying to figure out which scope I want. Been eyeballing the Falcon Menace. Or a Millet. Looking for something in the $400 to $600 range with at least 50mm objective and target turrets. Any suggestions? Also, any trigger monkeys on here from the Florence, SC area?

Re: New rifle build...

If you are in the $400-$600 dollar price range I would recommend a used Sightron SIII. I picked mine up from someone here for $600 and its a really nice piece of glass. I'm not sure if nikons have any 50mm scopes, but I have a couple of thier m223 scopes and I really like them for their price. There are a lot of options out there and you can read for days about them. Good luck.

Re: New rifle build...

Landpirate look in to the FFP Vortex i think it be a very very nice fit for that gun. i think you will be very very satisfied with that glass on your platform

its a very fine profile of a weapon, you'll have to post groups, rember although your barrel came with papers saying you don't need to brake it in, please do the brake in possess if you haven't shot it. it will help temper the rifling. i bet 178 amax run like a corvette out of that barrel

Don't worry about break in (or should I say "brake in"?). It's not necessary.

Re: New rifle build...

Thanks for all the comments. Simple was the look I was shooting for. As far as breaking in the barrel, a proper break in was performed by the builder. She's tuned for 168 gr. handloads. The guy lives about 700 yards from me and does a jam up job on reloads so I figured why go through the process of buying different stuff to see what it likes? I'm slowly working my way into reloading, so it should all work out.

Agreed! Great words to live by.
