Rifle Scopes New Schmidt & Bender PM2 6-36x56

Only reason to buy a SB right now is if you need alpha glass under 12". The 520US is the only reason I buy SB anymore. TT, ZCO kill SBs offerings at their respective retail vs SB retail
prices. If SB thinks they will stroll in with a 6-36 at 5k and it will sell like zco or TT lol 😂.....

6x erector is prolly cheaper than a 9x, the scope is more compact and I have a feeling it will replace the 5-25.
9x erector too much. 6x is a sweet spot that will leave the legendary S&B eye box pretty much in tact. Expect it to eventually replace the 5-25. I'd bet the relocation of the original illumination knob was knee jerk and a newer, sleeker version will be forthcoming. The old/new one sticks out like the cylinder head on an old BMW motorcycle.

It definitely looks like a tumor that's going to catch on everything in pics, but it is about .5" narrower than the TT 525. Something slicker would be cool...But honestly these being available in 2022 would be cooler.

If these are in the 4500 range, I will be selling my two SBs and NF ATACR and will run straight SB. At over 5k, I will just stick with what I got. Would love to have the 36 power even though I rarely go that high in my NF. But it’s nice to have when you want it. I know I am in the minority but I like the tumor style illumination adjustment knob in the SB scopes. It gives it a distinct look and it’s out of the way for me.

EuroOptic, if your listening?

Just asked them about pre-orders, timeline, and expected cost. No impact, no idea.

I was able to handle the 6x36 at Shot and it seemed good but very hard to tell when inside a building. I have 3 S&B 1 3x27 and 2 5x25 and I like the glass. I am thinking of getting a new ELR scope and it will be either the S&B 6x36 or the Zco 5X27. Like other now the wait...

A lot of good options out now. Just have to find your favorite reticle, turrets and what glass your eye prefers.

How would you compare the eye box to the two Schmidt you own?

I like the details I see on the website.

The GRID reticle looks great and the turret options are also pretty sweet. It is also quite compact and they finally moved into the modern world with eliminating the illumination barnacle.

I would bet this eliminates multiple scopes from their product line - 3-27, 5-25 and maybe the 5-45

A 6-36x couldn’t possibly replace a 3x-anything. 5-25x, absolutely.

From what I could tell it was bigger than the 3x27 much like the eye box on 5x25. The eye box on the 3x27 took me a little time to get used to cause it smaller than the 5x25.
I would concur, I’m wrapping up my review that included the Schmidt 3-27, 5-25 and G3 6-36 among others. Eyebox is very forgiving on the G3

Because of the 5-25 tunneling, 6-36 has more FOV on power.
Looks like no reason to buy a 5-25 anymore but will need to wait for 6-36 release and possibly price.
The 6-36 will undoubtedly be a chunk of change, but should fix the few shortcomings the 5-25 exhibits with better FOV and mag range so the biggest reason to get a 5-25 will be the used market which should see a dip in pricing once the 6-36 starts shipping reliably.

Still wondering why the US version has a lower FOV.
My theory on this is that the larger FOV has some optical degradation around the edges, S&B does not want their glass quality questioned by the US market and so have limited the FOV.
You can actually see that the FOV measurement in degrees is smaller, 4.2 VS 3.56 so there is a technical difference.
This is just my opinion but there is no other differences listed in the specs.

Looking forward to the review. Just curious, how did you get your hands on the 6-36? Can you share your thoughts on usability of the reticle at 6 power as well?

I believe he’s talking about the G3 Razor 636 that he has and will be comparing to the 525 and 327 PMII.

Yes that is correct, the Gen 3 Razor is the 6-36 I’ve been reviewing, would love to have included a Schmidt 6-36 but rumors say fall and with Schmidt’s track record of delayed releases I’m not holding my breath.

Alright, this is from Optics Trade EU but price range for the 6-36 PMII is 3780€ - 4610€ (VAT included) depending on color and turret configuration. Converted to USD $4155 - $5068 with VAT still in there. Didn’t get any specifics on which turrets the lower vs higher prices applied to.

When you price it out on their site the DTii is plus $530. So it would appear the price would be 4700ish. I’m not sure if there are additional add-ons with importing to the US. Assuming I could get a 10% discount, I would say 4200 would be a good buy for the DT turret, this is assuming glass quality is greater than the 5-25 line and the eye box is reasonable.

That's a tough sell without seeing it honestly but your right it would need to be on TT and zco glass/eye box level

If I were a betting man (I'm not cause I always lose, just ask my wife 😁) I would venture to say the 6-36 would become Schmidt's best design yet optically and if that is the case I would think it would easily fit into the TT/ZCO level of optics. The 5-25 is very impressive optically even with it's shortcomings (like tunneling) and I'd rank it second runner up behind TT/ZP5/ZCO... why Schmidt would go backward doesn't make sense which is why I think the 6-36 will be even better, but at this stage we are all just predicting and assuming ;)
