I upgraded from the Athlon Ares BTR to a Cronus BTR and took it out for the first time yesterday. I experienced something I've never experienced before with any other scope (vortex HST, Athlon Ares, Crossfire, etc).

1) the parallax on the Cronus didn't seem to be precise. i even had another shooter observe this. we were shooting at 720 yards, but the parallax knob had to be at 250ish for everything to look right. When i was looking at the 520 yard target, my parallax knob had to be at 150ish for everything to look right.

2) when i would get on the scope, the reticle and target would look great. then 2-3 seconds later the reticle would almost completely wash out to the point I couldn't barely see it. This was especially noticeable at 100yards when i was sighting the scope in. i've never experienced that before. Every scope i've owned the ocular focus has always been all the way in, and that's how I started with this Cronus. I did however adjust it and it never helped. My buddy said it was probably eye strain and it happens to him every once in awhile. i wouldn't know "eye strain" if it smacked me in the face, never experienced that before and I felt normal. i shoot all the time and never ever had that happen. if i took my face off the scope and then looked back again, everything would be in focus for 2-3 seconds then wash out again.

so what gives? is the reticle washing out issue related to my parallax issue? I know there's a proper method/steps to "setting up your ocular lense and parallax" i've just never done it because every scope i've owned worked for me out of the box.

i have a match next weekend and if that reticle washing out keeps happening...that worries me.

one thing I WISH i had thought to do was get behind a different scope (a razor HDII and another cronus) that was there and see if it was still happening to me. but i didn't think of it

Give us a call, lets see if we figure out what's going on.

I can't speak to the rest, but #1 is usually not right even on the best of the best. Maybe it's because everyone's eyes are different, but NF doesn't even bother putting distances on their parallax knobs (smart) because it's seems to never be right.

It's closest to actual distance on my K624i, but I think that's just luck. If I adjust it to the KDT before I look it's darn close, but still needs a tweak to become crystal clear.

Did that. And did it again.

I think i was having a stroke or something yesterday. I’m at home behind the gun right now and not having any issues. I’m going to shoot the match with it next weekend and verify. Scope is staying put for now. Shout out to Drake @ Athlon for letting me bug him.

Only reason I posted so hastily was because I was worried about the match next weekend.

I’ll report back after it.

Usually if something doesn't seem right after ones best effort to make the proper diopter adjustments then there is very likely a problem with the scope.

That being said I've had two Cronus scopes that didn't have your described problem, they worked great, even with my sorry eyesight.

The difference between 15in/lbs and 18 in/lbs is so minute I can't imagine the optic ever knowing the difference.

that's my thought. but a few people suggested it and I've read a few threads of a couple in/lbs actually having an effect people claim. so it was a just a precaution on my part and not hurting anything trying it. spec for my rings is 15-18 so i just drop it to the low end.

Well guys, I wanted to update everyone. I shot a match this weekend with zero issues from the Cronus. Not sure if I was experiencing eye strain or the rings being at 18inlb caused the issue or what. But I did drop them down to 15 just to be safe. Regardless the scope is running beautifully. Thanks for everyone’s input on my hasty post.
