Rifle Scopes New scope for 600yrd shooting

Alright I'm getting a Savage Model 12FLV in 22-250. And have been looking for a scope for it. I would like to have ajustable turrets and/or mildot reticle but it is not a must have. <span style="font-weight: bold">My budget is around $300 or less.</span>

I saw the new Simmons Predator Quest Scope on SWFA.
Nikon Buckmaster 6-18 mildot on Midwayusa.
other suggestions?

Disclaimer: The first response you are going to get from the majority is to save up until you can get better glass. The second response is that "You get what you pay for is especially true with scopes." Then of course the requesite "Use the search" comments will come as well.

That said...I personally dislike Simmons scopes. Nikon usually has pretty decent glass for the money.

I've never tried the Super Sniper line of scopes, but they seem to have a pretty loyal following.

My dad has a 10x42 super sniper on his DPMS Sweet 16 AR and it's a great scope but i'm using my rifle for plinking out to 600 and coyote hunting and I would like to have variable magnification.

I like the super sniper but i'm looking at variable power scope. I was thinking of the 6 power but decided since this is going to be a calling coyote rifle it should be a variable power scope.
Any comments on the Nikon Buckamster 6-18 or Simmons Predator Quest Scope?? Any other variable scope recommendations?

I have the 6-18 Nikon Buckmaster on my 25-06 love the scope it is a great hunting scope for the money, I have no complaints.

I just bought the weaver grand slam tactical for $300 from midway. It's 3-10 mildot reticle with mildot target turrets. Im pretty happy with it so far.

unless you get a 3200 10x or supersniper 10,16 or 20x just save up..You'll most likely end up with buyers remorse somewhere down the line..

How are the turrets on the buckmaster? do they have good positive clicks? are they accurate when you use them and do they reset to zero????? Is the scope heavy? Picture?


The reason i'm looking at these scopes is this is going to be a coyote calling/truck/plinking rifle, i don't need all the magnification those scopes offer. the super snipers is a great scope (got one on an ar15) but they have a good weight to them, and i don't need all the mag. i would prefer a variable power when those dogs come in close, but be able to zoom in on them when they hangout there at 400-600 yards.

Try the longrangehunting forum if you want a more hunting oriented crowd. Most people here are going to recommend a more tactical type scope.

Go to natchezss.com. Natchez has Nitrex scopes on closeout. These are said to be the same as Weaver and guys that have bought them are pretty jazzed about the value. No mildots but
3-15X50mm, side-focus parallax, red/green illuminated reticle (Weaver) and tactical turrets. $279.95

IMO. Its alot easier to figure Mil/Mil or MOA/MOA than Mil/MOA.

I had always used MOA/MOA optics like the Nightforce NP-R1 with 1/4 MOA adj.

The Weaver Grand Slam Tactical was my first Mil/Mil scope. I bought 2 of them for 2 different AR-platforms and I love them. I had (1) Mil/MOA scope, it was a Leupold Mark 2 for a AR setup i had. I hated the Mil/MOA adj. so I sold it.

Do yourself a good thing and get a MOA/MOA or Mil/Mil optic.

Would you guys suggest a scope with adjustable turrets and mildot reticle for coyote hunting which could have shots going out to a MAX of 600 yards. I don't plan on shooting out that far but I would like to know that I have a good chance to drop the dog at that range. Or would you suggest a regular reticle and scope and just learn my ballistics and my rifle????

If you go with a regular hunting scope without a range compensating reticle how do you plan on adjusting your POA at distance?

If by the time honored method of hold over by guessing the distance above where you want the bullet to hit, you are going to have a very limited max range of engagement.

If you dont dial in to compensate for range then some sort of incremental reticle would be most helpful.

I use a mil reticle and MOA dials because my hunting seldom puts a berm behind the critter. On flat land with a good grass cover bullet impact is seldom seen and if observed is so behind the animal as to be unusable for what hieght it passed the animal.

That means any reticle is useless for a follow up shot, and most times the critter is doing a very fast exit.

All my scopes now have target/tactical knobs to dial on range and a Mildot reticle for attempting lead on SLOW moving animals. Though I did hit a running pig out in tall bermuda grass with a 4 dot lead. (that grass is hard for pigs to run in, on hard ground takes all the dots you can find!

)

Personally out past 300 yards I need a scope with knobs and or a good reticle system to be confident of a good hit on a living and mobile target.

I use a 308, flatter shooting cartridges work a tad better farther out.

Alright I'm somewhat reconsidering my options. I like the Super Sniper but I think 10x is possibly too much power for those closer range shots. What about the 6x?

The scopes I have been looking hard at are the:
Buckmaster 6-18 Mildot
Millet Buck Gold 4-16x56 mildot
Super Sniper 6x
Simmons Predator Quest (i would put tape on my zero mark on turret and use that as a makeshift adjustable turret)
Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10 mil/mil scope.

Any Reviews or Comments or pictures on these scopes?
my budget is around $300.

check out the vortex I've seen some nice ones especially the viper i'm in the proses of buying one 6.5x20x50 great life time warranty.

I just noticed that this forum is doing a group buy from SWFA and they have a pretty good deal on the Super Sniper 10x42

Would you think that the fixed 10x is too much zoom for shooting at 100 yards. (i will be shooting coyotes and plinking at misc targets.
