G'day everyone,

You would have noticed recently I have been asking about various scopes. I have narrowed it down to the following.

- Swarovski Z6 3-18x50
- Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56
- Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44
- Vortex Razor HD
- USO 3.2-17x44

These scopes are in the AUD$2000 - $3000 and available in Australia easily.

Obviously some are FFP & SFP but just need help choosing something that will give me best value for money

That's a broad array of scopes. While all quality optics, you've mixed FFP and SFP in there. What are you looking to do with it?

Yes I know some are FFP while others are SFP. I'm looking at doing hunting which is generally 50-250m while punching paper out to 1000m once I work up to that, but what to buy a scope to do all of that. At the moment I'm just running a 3-9 redfield as it was a cheap interim scope

Not on your list but should be: Nightforce 3.5-15 F1.

It's FFP. It has very nice glass. I spent yesterday evening bird watching. I recently had my eyes checked and a new prescription issued. Honestly, there is no difference in resolution and contrast between my NF 3.5-15 F1 and Hensoldt 4-16.

I used to avoid NF cuz the older variants were not very contrasty. But now, with the improved lens coatings, they are awesome.

For hunting, I would go for a model with lower magnification available and SFP so that the reticle doesn't disappear. Hunting out to 250 m, you don't have to do much for hold-over / hold-off so I'm thinking having a FFP reticle won't be that beneficial.

For long range work, and the ability to range objects without having to dial a specific magnification, a FFP scope with magnification around 20x would work fine.

Yeah that's my thoughts exactly. I was in the shop looking at Z6's, Zeiss and the like when I found a VX6 4-24x52 which really took my fancy being light, leupold backing, easy to use and $1000 or more cheaper then all the ab

So I may just settle for something simple like that

This guy went through three scopes in a row. Leupold needs better QC and better customer service.

Yeah I see what your saying. My redfield has the same issue with the numbers not lining up but I've heard the same issue with Swarovski scopes also so it's just one of those things.

I got quoted $2080 for the VX6 at my local which puts it around $800 cheaper then most other scopes I've looked at on that list except the Razor HD which is the same price. So go see what else I can find around the place so I know who I'm dealing with.
