I have been waiting a long time for this!
I just received my first ever build. I have never owned a custom rifle let alone a rifle of this magnitude. Marc at Spartan finished this up just this last weekend and OH what a beauty!! Santa Soulie came to town!
I owe alot of thanks to the people that held my hand through the build. I am novice at longe range shooting and took NorCals course a few years back. That is when I opened my eyes and could see the next level.
I am not new to hunting though; this will be my new longe range hunter after you folks educate me at the 1k line.
I was able to run a few different loads through it and found one that produced a group that you could cover with a dime,.........at 200 yards.
Once I load up more I'll post more.
The rifle is a 7mm RSAUM
McMillan stock A3
Logger head by Joe Ducos
Stiller Tac 30 action
Badger BM
Jewel Trigger 1.5lbs
Barlein Med Palma SS barrel 25"
RAD muzzle brake
12.25lbs with out bipod
Currently I have found 61gr. and 61.5gr. of H4831SC to be the money maker. Im running the 180gr Berger VLD and
CCI250 primers. Not sure of the fps yet.
Thanks for all the help
Now it's time to go shoot!!!

Re: New Spartan 7RSAUM

I'm glad you like it Justin. It's always nice when your entire load development process gets one hole groups with anything you feed it

That's a perfect long range precision hunter. It's quite a bit lighter and more manageable than the pig heavy tac rifles most of us are used to. I'm going to build one of those for my own hunting rig and then run it at the ASC match in West Virginia next year.

Re: New Spartan 7RSAUM

I should have range reports by Saturday. Gotta go back and zero at 100 then run it through the chrono. Should have good data to
300 yards. This thing drives its self. At 100yrds I cant keep them out of the same hole.
I should be ready to start another in the next few months. I guess I should get a stock started.
I'll call you about the next build.

Re: New Spartan 7RSAUM

MV is running 2939 with the 180vld but have been getting signs of pressure with the 61.5g of H4831SC. This pressure is not constant. Not sure why I have this. Seems like the first three after cleaning had issues.
The 61gr. is running 2915 with out issues. Noticing big changes with clean vrs fouled. Almost 100fps first 4rnds. After brake in, I'll quit cleaning so much. Groups are sub MOA
300 yards are 1". Gave the rifle to the wife and she matched my every shot.
To me this will challange me as a shooter. This gun is Johnny on the spot. Sighting in is F#@%!@ easy.

he has it in his first post:

thanks for the MV. 2900+ with the 180 is impressive given the 25" barrel. I have a 26" in the works and was wondering if 2900+ is achievable. Sounds like YES.

Re: New Spartan 7RSAUM

Wow that thing is almost identical to mine, Looks awesome! Mines at 16lbs with the bipod and scope.

Did you weigh yours with the scope and rings?

What COAL are you seating your loads?

Just posting a pic for similarities. I think the only difference is the dbm, action, and my barrel is a Bartlein Robert Whitley contour @ 26".

Re: New Spartan 7RSAUM

I am running the 180gr bergers .030 off the lands.
I'll post target pics once I complete my load work up.
I may go with 61.2gr of H4831sc.
Thanks

To late!!! She already wants one to match her back pack. I told her for deer 300yrd min, head shots only. She didn't flinch at that.

Re: New Spartan 7RSAUM

Finally had time to zero the new SAUM
Both of these photos are at 300 yards and both have 4 shots.
Yup the driver needs some work.
Ended up at 2916fps w/180gr VLD and had to back down to 61.2gr. of H4831SC

I don't know about that. Some damn fine shooting if you are putting 3 rounds into a dime at 300! Nice rig and thanks for the updates on your MVs and accuracy. My Manners stock arrived yesterday so I'm a few weeks from getting my 7 SAUM together.

Re: New Spartan 7RSAUM

Manners will be nice!!! I think my next one will have a Manners.
The barrel twist is 1:9
Good luck with your new builds.
