New stripped lower question

Re: New stripped lower question

Stag, Spikes, and Bushmaster are good. I would also look at Daniel defense. I've seen folks trying to beat DPMS pins in a good lower. I steer away from anything with DPMS on it....but that's just me.

Re: New stripped lower question

Absolutely nothing wrong with a DPMS LPK in my experience. I've used them in at least 4 builds and consider them a preferred source for a basic LPK. I've also used Stag, Daniel Defense and Palmetto. The only one to avoid is the Palmetto, again in my experience. You'll hear from others that swear by their kits, and the price is right, but the quality can be hit-or-miss and I definitely got a miss. As for having to "beat" the DPMS pins into the lower, I've never experienced anything like that. I'd really question whether the lower was in spec.

BTW: DPMS and Bushy are both owned by Cerberus (along with Remington, etc.) I'm guessing that the parts are sourced from the same vendor(s). FWIW I'd never buy a complete rifle from DPMS but the parts kits, and their lower receivers for that matter, are GTG.

Re: New stripped lower question

Get a complete lower if you're that concerned about fit, lmt, bcm, daniel defense. Their stuff is top notch, an i have had great luck with dd lpks.

Re: New stripped lower question

The lower came in last nite, went straight to back of the safe-my 338 LMI is getting really close to done. Don't need to be starting another project just yet; just trying to get an idea of where/what to avoid and consider. Noveske gen2 without any chainsaws:) good info on the DPMS kits. Matt

Re: New stripped lower question

DPMS LPK's are all I have ever used and I have Never had any problems.
But, I buy the DPMS kits from Brownells and they can be purchased without the trigger assy. which I do, and I use only Geissele triggers.
I would also agree, if someone had to beat pins into a lower receiver and it was a DPMS LPK my money is on a defective receiver.
I also would not buy a complete DPMS rifle, based on the ones I have seen and shot. Never owned one......

Some here will swear by them but I'd avoid the RRA 2-stage trigger as they're known for premature failure. Several well-respected trainers tell their students to remove a RRA two-stage and replace it, with a stock trigger if necessary, before coming to one of their classes.

Re: New stripped lower question

you can piece a LPK together from brownells or the like. No point in paying for redundancy in regards to the grip and FCG when your going to upgrade them to something else anyway. If thats your plan

Re: New stripped lower question

I've used a DPMS LPK in my stripped lower from them with my 6.8 upper and used one to redo my wife's first AR an Olympic (sold that piece of un spec junk and won't ever consider them again). I used a CMMG rifle kit for my son and my brother did the same. I used a RRA LPK with my SBR with 2 stage trigger. And when my brother's roommate had me build his we used a Palmetto state LPK.

2-DPMS LPKs
2-CMMG LPKs
1-RRA LPK
1-PSA LPK

Six parts kits over the last 5 years from 4 different manufacturers. The only issue I've came across with them was due to the used Olympic Slick Willy Special AR being so out of spec and piss poorly built/machined.

I know that my builds from now on will be without trigger as I'll replace it anyways. And that is one thing about PSA that I love, they have Geiselle LPK options. I would definitely get one from them next time, not because I could tell any quality over DPMS, but because I can choose which trigger I want.

Re: New stripped lower question

Marshall, I'll remember SH sponsors when the time comes to purchase; thank you.

The examples/experiences you guys are sharing are exactly what I'm after, keep'em comin. It's amazing how overwhelming the product advertisements can get; filtering out the shoty products but not over paying either can be tough.

Good to know. Thanks.
