New Tikka Inbound and Another Question about Stocks

I have a Tikka T3x Lite LA inbound and I'm wondering about my stock options. On the one hand, I could replace the recoil pad with a Limbsaver and add a cheek riser of some sort, or I could ditch the factory stock altogether for a chassis. In the chassis market, I'm primarily interested in the KRG Bravo/Echo or the MDT Field or similar in the sub $500 range. My usage for this rifle will be for hunting deer and hogs at 400 yds or less, with the vast majority of shots falling at 300 and under.

Amongst the chassis, I'm leaning toward the KRG Echo.

What sayeth the Hide?

I have a Bravo, and I like it, but I don't think the ergos are suited to offhand or stand hunting. I think you would first want to identify what you don't like about the base stock, and go from there. Although I got a CTR stock I'd sell you if you want one of those. LOL.

AG Composites makes Tikka stocks now. Some of their fiberglass stocks are under $500. I've got a carbon fiber Visigoth and it's pretty great for hunting.

I don’t know that I won’t like the OE stock, but since I’m going to have to add a cheek piece or pad and I’m going to swap in a limb saver recoil pad, it seemed like I ought to at least consider my options with a chassis, especially since the chassis comes with an adjustable comb already. Thanks for the input!

Told could change the grip to the vertical grip.. if your going to be shooting standing or off the bench or tri pod I know when I did that it made the stock feel better to me

I had a field stock and it sucked, the comb and buttstock is very narrow and bladey and the forend is flimsy. I really liked the bravo but sold it bc I'm primarily a spot and stock hunter and didn't like how it was a pound heavier than everything else and limited to SA. Ergos were excellent though and the echo is very close to the bravo. I think it'd probably be the ticket bc of the ergos and you can use the OEM mags. It's also very reasonably priced too. Some of the LA Tikka chassis like XLR or MDT hnt 26 you are limited to a 7 oz metal 3.56 aics mag but with the echo you can still use the OEM ones. Currently my 7mag sits in an OEM stock with a airtech buttpad, vertical grip, and drilled comb raiser (get a trigger spring too). For an OEM option you aren't giving up much in terms of ergos and it's still very lightweight.

Thanks for the info! Where did you find the screw-on riser? Tikka risers seem to be unobtanium at the moment.
I have a couple of the razor rest ones off eBay. if you don't want to drill the Bradley cheek rest or triad stock pack also would work but a little more expensive. I have a couple of the Bradley's too. This is the razor rest with a wrap on it. on a compact 223

Sharp looking stick there. I like the wrap.

I could, and have, installed that type of adjustable rest, but my strong preference is for something that doesn’t snag like those knobs will. The OEM cheek riser would be ideal, but I have stock packs on two other rifles, so may go that route. Still exploring my options with this…

I have a Tikka 6.5CM CTR in a Bravo chassis and I really like it. I bought a Tikka 300 WM Super Varmint last year and I ended up going with the MDT Field stock. They are similar, but I think the edge would have to go to the KRG Bravo. If the KRG Echo had been out I probably would have gone that route instead of the MDT Field stock.

I stuck Tikka’s vertical grip, wide forend attachment , and Limbsaver pad (I think it was a Limbsaver)on a T1X and I love it. I’m only running a 42mm obj. over a fairly narrow barrel so I got by with Warne Lows (which are pretty darn low) and don’t really need any more on the comb.

Sorta wish someone made Tikka and 700 stocks to the same pattern and dimensions…..

Surprising. I just got an MDT field stock and I think it's fantastic for the price. Can't remember the site but I got the stock and an AICS mag for $320 shipped to my door. Did require a tiny bit of trimming but the stock itself is by far the nicest $300 stock I've ever bought. Nothing else even close.

Does it compete with my $900 Manners? Not at all...but the $600 back in my pocket will cover it.
