Been lurking for a few weeks soaking in all the experience and advice that this forum has to offer. Time to come outta my hide and into the light of day with my new project.

Just traded a Marlin XL7 ought 6 for a Remmy ADL with a manufacture date of May 1996. It is also chambered aught 6 and appears to be stock. I kept the old Bushnell 4-12 x 40 off the Marlin and just ordered a 2 piece Leupold rail and mid rings to set the Bushnell to the Remmy.

I traded because of the aftermarket support for the Remmy vs the XL7 is phenominal and I plan on setting this rifle up for 600-800 yards or so. Not sure how it will wind up being set up barrel wise, but I suspect I will be using Hooper Ordnance to do my machining..

Here's my question. I know the ADL is a short action piece. Considering that I will be doing some sort of aftermarket stock, what makes the most sense as far as setting this up for a magazine so I can take advantage of buying the stock and magazine conversion so when this goes to Hooper I can convert the piece, bed the new stock, and true the barrel/chamber and add a VAIS brake? Also, what bolt upgrade/modifications are warranted to this stock bolt...

Thanks in advance for your advice...

Well the ADL does NOT specify short or long action. Only the style of bottom metal. ADL have just a trigger guard and use a blind magazine box inside the stock. They also use 3 screws for stock to action conection. All M700's have the 3 screw holes in the actions (maybe a few exceptions).

BDL specifies a hinged floorplate that enables you to drop out all the rounds that are loaded into the internal magazine box.

There are multiple manufacturers of DBM systems, Seeking, Badger and CDI to name a few. All are great systems, I prefer systems that use AICS style magazines.

Think long and hard about what you want to do with the rifle....as to if you really need to spend the extra $400+ on the DBM, will you be running the rifle in matches? If not an ADL configured rifle is still plenty fun to shoot strings with and is no hinderance on accuracy.

Also forgot about the HS precision DBM and the Kwik Klip.....a buddy is running the Kwik Klip on his 30-06 and it cycles flawlessly, and is a hell of alot cheaper.

Re: New to me - Remy 700 ADL

I have already came across the ADL to BDL conversions. I had just read somewhere that the ADL's were short action piece's. Thanks for the clarification.

My initial thought on this rifle is to get the glass mounted and the barrel trued. The original owner says only 50 rounds or so down the tube. I have access to a range that shoots 100, 200,& 300 so I want to go get a feel for what this thing is capable of shooting before I settle on aftermarket stock/magazine setup... I was originally looking to set up a .308, but the two ought 6's presented themselves first. I only have 275 bucks invested in this setup, and that includes a box and a half of factory 150's... I plan on rolling my own after I get a few one shots collected and at some point I would like to gravitate to building a sub-MOA stick. It might not wind up being this particular piece, but we will see where this path leads... I still have a lot to learn about shooting glass... most all my experience growing up and in the Marine Corps has been behind iron sights... with that said, I graduated boot camp as Series High Marksman, so I do know which end of a stick points down range... lol...

Thanks for the comment
