So I got a cz on the way and I’m shopping for a cheap optic less than 500 with mil discount,I noticed a lot of you guys are running high power / 34mm tube scopes, why such high power is it because 22 are so small?, what are you guys zeroing your rifles at? Thanks

I don’t know what you want to get out of your rifle. Buy as much scope as you can unless you’re shooting against you buddies and you all want to have small scopes. <— That’s actually quite fun. In the real world bigger is better, get as much as you can afford and learn what that rifle likes to eat.

95% of the match’s I shoot are between 25-350 yards with 1 or two at 400-425 yards. The 34 mil tubes generally have more internal adjustment which can be needed sometimes. standard 0 is 50 yards

Yep, shot a match yesterday, 15 inch diamond plate at 385 yards. 20 mils of elevation, was able to dial all of it and 4 mils of wind. Surprised to hit it two out of three times.

They have 30%off today for the Arken.,sold! 325 shipped !
I finally mounted my Arken EP5 5-25X56 and have been shooting it the last couple of days. Not bad...burly and seems well built. I need to shoot it more....so far no complaints. I wouldn't mind trying one of their 4-16x's.

I know you already got your scope, but others up your alley are in the Athlon and Vortex neighborhoods.

I zero at 50y but shoot at 100y mostly. I like the extra power so I can see the holes in the target and not lug a spotting scope. But If I was shooting positional, like in appleseed, I need much less power and use a lighter scope.

Your rifle probably doesn't come with a pic rail. CZ USA, Area 419, and Triggers by Scar should have 25-50MOA rails for you. CZ USA has 10rd plastic mags on sale. I know my rifle only came with 1 rd mag.

I'm running a Vortex Venom on my CZ. It's nice having the 25x zoom, but I find myself using 12-15x most often

I'm a n00b too and found out this stuff the hard way.

Most are running up into that 20-25x range at least in part because it can be nice to have that level of zoom for long ranges and tiny splashes, but also because operating at max zoom typically results in inferior sight picture, so the very useful ranges of 10-18x are in the middle range of a 25x scope, and you get good visuals in the middle ranges.

Even at 12-15x I still play 'where'd the target go?!' on stages

I had a case of the creeping crud last nite or I'd be down in King George shooting a MARS match today.

You will like your Arken. I have four of them. Two SH4's in 6-24x MIL are on my 22 trainers/PRS rifles, and one EP5 5-25x MIL is on my CF precision rifle. I zero the 22's at 50y and can dial for bullet drop out past 400y range. Can see hits at 300y. All of these are priced under $500 ea. For the money they are hard to beat. The SH4 is HD glass and the EP5 is ED glass but I cannot tell much difference other than the color shift on the SH4's is more noticeable and is not detectable on the EP5. Both have great clarity and great turrets. The SH4 in 4-16x is sitting in my home awaiting a rifle worthy of its ability. Low ambient light conditions are where these scopes shine. The clarity is stellar and the ability to quickly dial up and down for range variation is so good that I do not hesitate to do that anytime it is needed. The return to zero stop is right on every time.

My only complaints were the lighted reticle on the SH4 was too dim for daylight use in my first one. They fixed that with the new gen EP5. I have two newer SH4's that have yet to get the batteries installed to see on them. The other complaint is that when dialed all the way down to the lowest power setting, the center of the reticle is hard to see, even with the lighted piper in the middle. That is a very minor issue.

I have not found a better scope priced under $1000 to date. Mostly the scopes that compete with it for clarity and quality are priced over $2000. Examples are NF, Razor, and Kahles 624. Those will all out do the Arken but at more than 4x the price. Zero compromise is another but again it is a top tier very pricey optic.
