New to S/H, looking for 7mm build advice

I have a McM A5 and a 700 action. I was looking into a semi-custom build to effectively push the new 195 Bergers. Would a 7 RM have enough umph or is the 7 RUM the way to go? Is a 9 twist stabilizing these things?

The REM mag should handle it just fine but you may need 1:8 or 1:8.5

9 twist should work but, no reason to not go 8.5/8.75 if that bullet is on the menu.

7 Mag with 1:8 twist, Retumbo will be your powder of choice and I wouldn't go less than 26" on the barrel to help push the big 195 VLD. Anything more such as 7RUM is just way too much to shoot enjoyably.

Thanks for the replies. In the little bit of Google searching I did, I was lead to believe that the 7 RM wasn't enough to effectively push that big bullet. I am glad that others feel differently.

As a fan of 7mm's, I have studied the .284" projectiles.

First off, the 195 bullet doesn't exist yet. It is unknown if it will actually come to fruition.

Secondly, I'm having a hard time seeing how this bullet is going to be much of an advantage for all but the most extreme ELR.

In any given chambering, the lighter bullets will be faster and considerably flatter, even to some extreme distances.

My knowledge/understanding tells me that getting bullets to 2500fps is easy, 3000fps is much tougher, and every 100fps past 3000 is harder and harder.

For these reasons, I think these 195s will really be best suited to those chamberings capable of getting them to ~3100-3200 fps. Not sure what chambering that would be, but I wonder if a 7RM will do it.

I'm getting started on a 7STW for that very thing. Hoping to get the 195s right at or a tad over 3k. From everything I've seen it should be possible but I don't expect the barrel to last more than 900rds.

I've got a 7RM and am interested in the 195, if they materialize. But if they don't the 180 hybrids shoot pretty well and the 168s shoot really well.

I need to check my facts. I was under the impression that the 195's were a sure thing.
