Hey all,

I Tried to search for this to see if it had already been talked about but to no avail so youl have to forgive me if this is obvious or has already been talked about.

Anyways iv doing lots of research and looking around iv decided i want to buy a US Optics scope to learn the dynamics of Long Range Shooting I have a goal of one day making a 1 mile shot and know how to do it. ( not just sitting behind someones rifle who has it all set up and pull the trigger this does not count)

So i decided that i like MOA more then Mils it just makes more sense to me but feel capable of learning both so in your guys honest opinions should i just buy mil/mil cause that is what most people use? or go with what i feel makes more sense to me in MOA/MOA?

Also the gun i decided to start with is a Remington 700 SPS AAC SD 308.

I plan on buying a JAE-700 chassis i like the way it looks and seems to have a very nice build quality altho i have not held one so this could change.

I live in CA so id like to give them a call when i get home (currently out of town because of work) and hopefully go down and put my hands on one.

but as to the point of all this at the risk of soundly very noobish in the USO configuration you have the options of getting an extended eye relief eye piece housing. I cant find anywhere that talks about the advantages of having this and if it is worth the extra $200+ dollars.

so if anyone has any in site they could provide I would appreciate it.

also My scope choice is between the SN-3 3.2-17x44 or the SN-3 5-25x58 would the 5-25 be to large for my gun?

also i realize i wont really be able to make the mile shot with the 308 but i feel it would be a good starting block to build my knowledge due to Barrel life and ammo costs.

Also would hope to be able to take the gun hunting every once in awhile is possible or would the gun be to heavy?

Thanks all for your time and for being such a great resource really enjoy the website and community.

Edited for a misplaced word.

Re: New to scope Question.

The JAE 700 stock i do not think is out yet.

As for your scope choices youll have to research the adjustments and see if MOA is offered for your scope choices.

Re: New to scope Question.

The JAE has shipped to a few people from what i can tell i think they are back ordered quiet a bit but id have to call to confirm.

The MOA/MOA is available in my scopes of choice i like the MDMOA Reticle and the EREK knob in 1/4MOA and the windage knob verys between the 2 scopes as i like the US#3 M40 style 1/4 for the 5-25 Tpal but it is not available on the 3.2-17 i would have to choose the US#1 M40 style 1/4.

But my question is since it seems most use mil is it better to just learn mil?

Re: New to scope Question.

Hmm...i did not know the JAE 700 was shipping. For a long time the JAE 700 was being developed but people were getting anooyed because it wasnt shipping.

If your more comfortable with MOA then go for that.

Just wondering though....why US Optics? Don't get me wrong. US Optics is a excellent choice.

Re: New to scope Question.

Im thinking US optics because I enjoy things that are well made. they are made here in the USA I currently live in CA and their shop is only a few hour from were i live. they are the only ones that offer MOA/MOA with the exact configuration that i like with a FFP also i am a big fan of green which you can get an illumination in green with USO that you cant from anywhere else that iv seen.

NF also makes great scope but are mostly all SFP altho i guess they do make a few FFP which from what i can tell the price is not far off from what i want from USO. In this case i would rather pay a little more and get exactly what i want.

S&B from what i can tell are excellent scopes which alot of people rave about but i prefer to buy the US made (personal preference)

Leupold make nice scopes originally was going to go with them before doing all my research but noticed that they are very limited on MOA reticles they practically dont have any in the scopes im interested in.

Re: New to scope Question.

Here is the reason i say that the JAE 700 is shipping atleast to those that have had it on order for awhile. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=527736&highlight=JAE+700

I had noticed that it seems to have been delayed for awhile as well from what i saw it was announced back in 08-09 and it didnt ship till 12? but better to get the kinks out then to send out a bad product.

I can respect that

Re: New to scope Question.

Moa scopes are a dying breed mil/mil is much faster to range and adjust with. And is becoming much more common place Most spotting scopes have a mil reticle. Being on the same format as other shooters makes corrections much easier Since your building a 308 and just getting started a spotter is Gunna be a major help for ya
