Just wanted to say hello to you all. This is my first post on the board. About me.....I'm an Air Force Security Forces Veteran of 9 1/2 years. I'm currently a police officer for Sapulpa Police Dept, just outside of Tulsa. Here recently I've taken an interest in long range shooting. I can see there is a GREAT deal of information here for me to go through.....As of now, I just picked up a Savage model 10 tactical .308. It is not the new version with the accu-trigger. I also have a Howa 1500 .300 Win mag that I'm going to rebuild from the ground up......That is all for now, looking forward to being a part of the forum.

Welcome sir.
Lived in Tulsa/Bixby for 6 years, so I know the area well.
In fact, I really miss it.

I've seen several guys on the boards from Tulsa and the surrounding areas, so I'm sure you will eventually bump heads with them at a range or gun shop.

You will learn a pile from the guys here on the hide. Being a veteran and LEO, I'm sure you have pretty thick skin, which I have found is a necessity for this site.

Again welcome aboard, thanks for your service to our country, and please stay safe out there!

Were you also a member of Oklahoma Shooters Association? I'm also a member of that forum.

Congratulations on joining. Just watch what you pay attention to. Remember there is a lot of BS every where, but especially here. When it comes to guns or reloading, use your head and common sense. If something sounds wrong, it very well may be. Check things out before you start changing a lot of stuff.

Good luck and welcome.

Thanks for your service and welcome aboard.

I'm not sure rebuilding the Howa will give you either better results or a smoother ride to a superior outcome. I'm almost certain the Savage would be the better starting subject of the two.

I think that when starting out with extended range and porformance, the choice between improved hardware and improved skills favors the skills first approach.

If you haven't picked it up from the forums yet, the skills improvement works easier and less expensive by means of a good basic .22LR trainer. Nothing WoW!! is needed, just a solid, simple, reliable .22LR bolt gun and a solid, simple, reliable scope.

If you're spending more than $500 for the setup, you're probably overspending. Used is good and it should be cheaper, too.
