Hi there, Ive been shooting for about 6 mounths now with my remington 700 in .308. I have the stock 4-12x40 scope that came on the rifle, Its nice but I want something better. I ve been hitting 8"x 8" steel targets from 500 to 600 yards with some nice patterns and want to stretch to 800+. I only have about $700 dollors to work with and wanted to know what you guys thought would be a good upgrade. I was looking at sightron SIII scope and Vortex PST both look nice. Any information would be awesome

Quick note...shotguns pattern, rifles group
Many here will tell you to match the turrets to the reticle. Mildot, mil reticle.
The PST looks great, but not really out yet, so what's your timeframe? I don't have any experience with Sightron, but have heard good things.
Check out the Bushnell Tactical line as well, a 3-12 or 6-24 mil/mil Bushnell may fit your needs and budget nicely. There is a snipershide.com coupon code for them and Midwayusa.com I believe that will save you $250 or so, someone here likely has a link to it.

thanks for the quick note still a green horn with the rifle lingo, From what Ive seen Im not a big fan of ffp scopes. I had a bad exp. with bushnell customer service so tryin to stay away.

Why don't you like FFP scopes?
Both SFP and FFP have some advantages but FFP in general are better for practical Precision stuff.
start shooting 1 round at 500, then 200, then 450, then 300... you will see the advantage.

I just dont like the sound of the reticle gitting bigger the higher mag you go. Ive only used SFP scopes and had no problem, never used a FFP scope and dont really want to spend the money to find out.

SWFA posted links about their entire line of Burris going on sale at the most ridiculous prices I've ever seen. Seriously, they're giving away the store, and I don't know why.
But you need to take advantage of it. They've got Euro Diamond scopes for like $<span style="text-decoration: line-through">600</span> $300, which is like $<span style="text-decoration: line-through">600</span> $400 off. You should check it out.
