I have a 10/22 TD and saw a post on rimfire central about a guy who machined a bull barrel for it. I know there will be those who say why in the world would you do that? Defeats the purpose of the gun. I did it because its bad ass. Plain and simple. I am not as talented as the other gentleman that did it but I do know some folks that are so... why the hell not. I love to shoot .22lr and this is a real fin gun to shoot.

So anyway, here are a few pics. I'd like to polish the barrel and then wait to see if anyone comes out with a replacement stock. If not, I will just stick with this one for the time being. If you haven't seen the other, it looks great with a custom hogue over molded stock. I haven't made it that far yet.

Figured I would share.

It is actually well balanced. The "muzzle brake" is simply a thread protector for the moment. I typically shoot suppressed so its really just there for protection. Doesn't look all that bad though.

I saw that thread on RFC that you referred to. That guy did a nice job. You also did a nice job.

It does not make any difference what anybody else thinks about the heavy barrel on the TD 10/22. You are the only person that has to like it.

I also like it!!

I am not aware of an aftermarket barrel yet. I got this TD in January and had looked before buying for a bull barrel with no luck. There is a lot of modification that has to be done (from what I understand it is a lot more work than what it looks like) and it took me awhile to find someone who was willing to try. If you search for TD with a Bull Barrel and go to images, you can see the barrel mods that have to be made.

I like the Thompson Machine one but I have a Sparrow and didn't want to spend $850 + 200 to the ATF. I have ~$320 in this one which includes the price of the Green Mountain barrel. I got the barrel around Christmas time when GM Barrels does a 12 days of Christmas sale and sells items for 50% off. So I bought a 24" barrel and had it shortened to 20". Its balanced really well with the scope on it and it shoots lights out.

Go send an email to Brooks at Thompson Machine:
RIMFIRE SUPPRESSORS « Thompson Machine

They've had their "Operative TD" around for a little while now...
Thompson Machine is WAY over-priced for their stuff. Huntertown has a nice integral with all the perfect features at a street price of less than 300 bucks.

Ill be getting one as soon as they get the version for the takedown out. Just hope its possible to get a front iron sight on it as Id like to keep my takedown as simple as possible.
could that work with a Kidd or PWS tensioned barrel?
No current barrel will work, the way the extension feeds into the locking mechanism wont allow for it. Its really a cool setup and some are even reporting a little better accuracy due to no barrel droop. Mine just has iron sights and itll shoot reasonable for my crap iron sight skill.

Update: Here is a pic once the stock was put on. This thing is a blast to shoot.
