New Tract Toric 2.5-15x44 FFP/SFP scope

Just saw this and wanted to throw it up here for discussion or if anyone is interested. Really like some of the things tract has been doing but gotta say I'm disappointed that the FFP models of this scope has no illumination, maybe that's just me. Looks like a nice design outside of that, like a Japanese made PST Gen II 3-15(PST still has better FOV and illumination for FFP and same weight/length essentially, Tracts boasts better eye relief and glass "technically"). Note: There are 4 different versions of this scope with FFP and SFP models available with different reticles.

I second the wish that the FFP models had illumination.

These FFP reticles seem to be identical to the standard crosshair offerings in the 4-20x50 models. Decent, usable reticles but nothing particularly special. I have one of the MRAD 4-20x50 scopes, and given how fine the crosshairs are, it’s definitely biased towards higher mag/ long range use. Given how this scope is targeted towards all around hunting use, illumination as an option to assist with lower mag/lower light situations would’ve been a good play.

Absolutely, well said. Maybe they were afraid people wouldn't buy it at the price that was needed for illumination, but their other PRS scopes had it and weren't overly expensive. Disappointed but oh well.

I have never needed - nor wanted - a "hunting scope" with an elevation knob the size of the animal I'm hunting. Goodness...

I realize there's capped options but they're only in SFP. A hunting scope does not need tactical-style turrets... ever.

I actually really appreciate the tall tactical turret of the Tract 4-20x50 and now these 30mm Hunt series scopes. I don’t find it distracting at all, it locks and dials beautifully, and with my XL hands in a mid-weight XL cold weather glove, I can grasp the turret to dial and still read the marks as I twist. Many of the lower profile exposed turrets don’t afford me that ability.

Everyone’s preferences and use patterns differ.

I like that they've kept it 30mm, I don't like the trend towards 34mm tubes for everything.
I like they went with capped windage and kept the weight relatively low.
I like the 10 yard parallax.

I don't like it still relatively narrow FOV and lacks illumination thought.

I've been wanting to replace my 3-15 PST with something that has capped windage and would've been all over this, but the FOV on the PST is considerably wider (basically the same at 3x as this at 2.5x) and the lack of illumination is a non starter for me.

They missed the mark on the reticle for hunting and no illumination it’s a flop. The reticle is .05 mil thick. That’s pretty fine for hunting distances in close. Even farther out it could be thicker. There’s threads on other sites about it.

This was exactly my thoughts. Honestly I've been talking to Jon over there via messaging for 6 months on this optic as I was potentially going to buy it. I had reached out to see if they had anything like this in the works as I have family who runs Tract scopes and like them. He told me they were doing SFP and FFP, what he didn't tell me was the FFP was not illuminated. I ended up purchasing something before this came out, I'm glad I wasn't set on it because like you no illumination is a no go. Maybe they will release it with illumination at some point, here's to hoping.

Reminds me of the old Sig Tango 6 2-12x40 FFP. I'd rather Tract have made this fixed parallax like the Sig and added illumination.

Not a lot of time behind her yet. But overal for a precision gasser optic I think this is crazy overlooked! For 900 bucks the build quality and glass is amazing! The 2.5x with the 10 yard parallax the scope is nice for close work and at 15x 700 yards is well within reach. The fov is very good compared to most in this mag range. The eye box is huge. The image is very crisp and well corrected. Don’t see why this scope doesn’t get more attention. At 28 oz it’s not a feather weight but it’s well worth the heft I think. It smacks the shit out of the mk5 3.6-18. The tract has a way bigger viewing image through it, it’s not eye box picky and the fov is miles bigger. Only good thing I can say about the mk5 is the damn turrets. This scope has very nice turrets as well clicks are very snappy and have basically no play. I’m very happy.
