Curious to hear how these work. IBI got off to a rough start with their barrel making, but supposedly those issues have since been addressed.

My understanding is that they are using a properietary tennon spec, I believe they missed an opportunity to use the Tikka spec to take advantage of all the prefits being made for Tikka. I don't think Ultimatum is popular enough to warrant companies (besides IBI) to make prefit barrels for them.

Looking forward to hearing reports on these.

I think this is an excellent value. Just ordered one for a buddy who wanted to build something on a KRG Bravo. I was thinking Origin then came across this deal. In Canadian dollars the barrelled action with trigger comes in $100 cheaper than the Origin alone.

It doesn't have an interchangeable bolt head. Says that on the website. They're coming out with a magnum down the road but you'll either need an entire bolt or a new action.

not to be a wet blanket in this thread but if you read the pre-order page carefully, it also says it won't be a straight drop in fit to current tikka stocks. they will require some milling at the trigger guard for the rem700 pattern trigger tech.

it does say they are working with some stock and chassis companies for a proprietary inlet

Yeah I’m betting it’s just a new bolt, because it states that it uses a mag block to switch between LA and SA magazines. I wonder if that is the reason for a proprietary tenon spec?

I called them asking what was needed to modify on my whiskey 3 for drop in. They said where the trigger safety lever is, a little bit of material is needed to be removed. Stated about 5 mins with a dremel if you want to home mod it cheap. If you look at their shot show pics you can see the area where it was milled by the receiver.

which is why i'm leery of this. it is a screaming deal no doubt and i've heard good things about the deadline but damn if they didn't have this same problem with THAT launch.

Yeah it states they got rid of some of the “premium” features found on the deadline like fluted bolt and removable bolt head. Meaning it definitely does not have interchangeable bolt heads, you’ll have to swap out bolts for bolt face change.

To be fair, most actions that utilize a trigger hanger will require a little extra massaging of some stocks/chassis. Nothing that 5 minutes with a dremel can't handle.

IMO....If you can't figure out a Dremel, you should be buying a full rifle build, not separate components.

I think anyone starting out down the road of assembling rifles would be better off to know that there is very little that is DROP IN READY. I think it would save a lot of the bitching and headaches.

For myself it has more to do with the difficulty of reselling parts that have been modified. I've kind of finally accepted that my guns are pretty much expensive barbie dolls and like having their dresses changed to match the seasons haha. Probably not a problem in the States, but the Canadian market is certainly much smaller.

In all seriousness, I can only imagine MDT naturally has an inlet on the way for it and it seems the Defacto also caught some interest from KRG from what I saw on their Instagram. I'm hoping this might inspire other easily accessible, low cost '(mostly) drop-in ready' barreled actions.

I have a krg tikka stock I was gonna do a build on. For me if I buy the t3x varmint in .223 it would be pretty similar but then I would also have to pay to get the barrel threaded. I have no use for the factory stock and would end up putting a new trigger and bolt handle on it. This option comes with a triggertech trigger but also a heavier threaded barrel, 60 degree action with options for future caliber change out and magazine options. Doesn’t sound like much but it was enough to persuade me into trying it out

Is there a chassis that takes AW magazines that this will fit?

Which chassis will allow AICS short and long? I don't want to buy a SA chassis and then have to spend again when I move to a long action caliber.

Is the Triggertech trigger using the standard height sear, I have a spare Special that I would swap in and keep the heavier trigger for my spare.

How much will a replacement bolt cost when the Magnum becomes available?

@srt-4_uk have you gone to their site? It says they made it a stripped down version and in a tikka footprint for cost purposes.

To be honest I tried to get them to sell me the barreled action without the TT trigger because I like two stages better, I might dump the trigger anyway.

I think it is so they can offer an AW magazine cut and maybe offer an easy path to 3.625" COAL for people who already have a chassis.

I "dropped" an Ultimatum Deadline in to a MDT 700 foot print Chassis. Change the mag latch shim the rear action bolt. It was really no big deal.

I’m guessing to come out with a tikka pattern action that is proven to be an awesome action, that takes rem 700 triggers, requires very minimal fitting, all for around the price of a factory tikka. If they are holding tolerances tight enough to make prefit barrels, for 1000 bucks you get a complete custom barreled action setup. And the prefit barrel world is blowing up I don’t doubt many of the mfg companies will make a prefit just for this action as well That’s spectacular! Tikka can have weird muzzle threading, not great contours. Throw this in a krg bravo and a new guy has a gun to go shoot prs for $1350 and I bet it shoots like a tikka but has a better contour, and a triggertech trigger! A local guy just made a clone tikka and I wondered why the heck he didn’t do a rem trigger, seems like the trigger change alone makes this worth it to a lot of guys. Just another superb entry level rifle for people. Gotta live the choices available to us!

I'm glad theyre expanding on Tikka footprint. I want to see as much Tikka stuff as possible. I wish they just stuck with the Tikka trigger too. Timney makes one, maybe a budget oriented version would have come to surface eventually, or at least a clone trigger they could use. It would have been preferable (for me at least) over modifying stocks for a tikka w/ remmington trigger, since I find the stock Tikka trigger good enough as is.
And as others said, Tikka tennon woulda been nicer.
Im curious to see how they do! Cant quite afford to order one atm. But consider me a hungry observer.

If this is correct then they should have made the tenon spec work with the Bighorn Shouldered Prefits and it would have been a home run! If they are using those threads anyways, why not make it work with one of the “Savage Thread” shouldered prefits that are out there?
