Ive lurked around the hide here in and off for a few years, but all my rifles were standard AR 5.56 carbine types with no real application beyond 300 meters so I never felt like I should register. I've always been more concerned with minute of man accuracy than making nice tight groups-and for short ranges that worked fine.
However now I'm starting my first long-ish range build: 6.5 Grendel AR Performance 18 inch SPR profile, colt upper, Larue handguard and nightforce 2.5-10x24. Lower has a Larue MBT trigger.
Ive also invested in reloading for this cartridge. I have a (very) old but still rock solid herters single stage press but will be adding a Dillon 550c and Forster dies. For load development I've acquired 123gr AMAX, 123gr SMK, and 123gr Nosler CC. I'll probably grab some 120gr Lapua Scenar-L as well. Lapua brass and a pound each of CFE 223 and 8208XBR. Primers are CCI#41. Add to that a large stockpile of Wolf 100gr steel for plinking and Mexican match experiments.
Im not sure how far this thing will actually shoot, and I know I need to really work on my game when it comes to shooting long range, but I'll be very happy with 600 yard hits, and if one day I can ring steel at a thousand yards I'll be on cloud 9! I think I've assembled the right tools, it's all in me now lol.
Looking forward to learning all I can from the hide here.
im just a simple former grunt that did all my shooting behind irons or an aimpoint, but this is exciting!
