Some good glass

Hi everyone, this is my first post and seems that this is the place to help me choose the right glass.

I'm currently dumping all my scopes after learning about SFP/FFP but that's a whole different story I won't get in to it after hours of scratching my head. I've learned now that I will only be purchasing FFP as I'm hunting/plinking. Another issue that has become frustrating is that I've learned that scopes do not only come in 30mm and 1". Once again this is new to me. So I thought I found the perfect IOR scope! It was 6-24x56, illuminated, side fast focus but in a 35mm WTF???? I've got weaver and dovetail to deal with as well so after a little searching I could not find 35mm dovetail mounts.

If there is another scope with these features, please let me know.

1" or 30mm
FFP only
Mildot
6-20x50 or in that area
side focus must and hopefully marked wheel in yards
Illuminated optional

Re: Newb looking for

35 mm gives more internal travel..the downside is weight. Ditch the dovetail style mounts for picatinny rail mounts and dont look back. Check out the SS 5-20 it is 30mm w/ or w/o illumination. It may be a little heavy for hunting though. If weight is a concern leupold mk4 er/t fits the bill.

Re: Newb looking for

The IOR will come with your choice of steel or aluminum rings.
IOR makes an excellent product, they also make 30mm tube scopes.

Do not concern yourself with the markings on the side focus. Everyone's eyes are different. You adjust the focus until parallax is removed. It does not matter what the "range" says on the knob. Some SF knobs do not even have yardage markings, and I never look at mine anyway. It is NOT a rangefinder.

As far as dovetail, weaver etc..., look into a picatinny rail. It gives you far more mounting versatility than a dovetail mount and has a specific standard for size, unlike weaver style rails.

Also, consider crossing 1" tubes off your list, as they generally lack the adjustment range of the 30, 34 and 35 mm tubes. The higher you go in magnification, typically the less vertical and horizontal adjustment you get.

Re: Newb looking for

Well since you asked, I'll explain. I'm currently shooting using a rimfire. But hold on don't rip on me just yet. I'm looking to pick up a Remington 700 or AR10 before the fall so I wanted something for this setup. Now back to my rim fire. Hunting critters out to 100 yards can be a challenge and once again this is where the SFP got frustrating. Yes the glass will be roughly around 4x the cost of my gun, but it's accurate as hell and I love it. If it makes a nice combo it stays on the .22 and I pickup another one for the .308, if not, it moves to the big brother.

So where's the best price on the IOR 3.5-18X50?

Re: Newb looking for

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your reasoning or the fact you are shooting a rimfire.

There are a couple of companies that make dovetail to weaver or picatinny conversions, one of them advertises here on the hide, but I can't remember the name.

Check with Scott at Liberty Optics and use the discount code for snipershide members.
