I have had trouble with inconsistent shoulder bump when I didn't let the mix sit on the brass long enough formal the alcohol to evaporate.

Yep. Gotta let all the alcohol evaporate.
Setting the freshly lubed brass in front of a fan for 15-20 min helps a lot.
