Hey guys,
Just getting started with learning about long range shooting and have some basic questions that I couldn't find by searching. I'm working on a 6.8spc ar15 build and currently have a millet trs 1 scope. I'm hoping to get some distance with this gun and would like to get out to 600 yds (if possible). I have a great connection on a trijicon accupoint 5-20x50mm scope at dealer cost but have heard it is limited to 37moa adjustments on elevation. I'm still learning so my question is if I zeroed at 200yds would 37moa adjustments get me to 600?

Sorry for the ignorance!

Re: Newbie question, be gentle

Not an ignorant question at all actually.

First, I'm not knowledgeable on the the reticle in the Accupoint, but remember, if it is any type of mil dot, or ranging reticle, you can use the dots or hashes as hold overs. So you may be able to get much more than just the 37 MOA out of it. I'm also don't know anything about the BCs or average MVs of the 6.8. So I have no idea how far it will drop.

You also should check out any of the online ballistic calculators. They are a great reference for anyone new to doping and long range shooting. When I went past 300 for the first time and started calculating dope, the online ballistic calculators really helped me in making all my dope cards.

If you have a PDA or a Iphone, there are a lot of really great apps that you can use too. I use Ballistic FTE on my iphone and love it. If you need some pointers for online ballistic calculators, or have no idea where some good ones are, just ask, or Google.

To be completely honest, its a breath of fresh air to have a new guys first question be something other than Counter Sniper or a "this vs that" thread.

Good luck! Long range shooting is a blast.

Re: Newbie question, be gentle

I believe that Trijicon is giving you 37 MOA up or down, total 72-74 MOA give or take...plenty to get you out to 600 although you won't have much energy left in your projectile at that range..

Re: Newbie question, be gentle

Thanks guys! Powder Burns, if it's 37moa up or down that's alot better. I'm not planning on hunting at that range but just paper if I can find a place to get out that far. I've heard anything past 450 is pushing it for hunting.

brand692, Thanks for the advise and the headsup for the iphone I have one and will download asap. It does have mil-dots but I doubt they're set up for 6.8spc so I guess I will have to figure that out to.
