Gunsmithing newbie question here on scope mounting

Hello, I looked for a sticky on this and could not find one. I used my google-fu and found several videos but none were using 1913 rails, all old school mounts on older rifles, i am going to TRY to mount my new steiner 5-25x56, i asked badger and was told i needed extra high rings and I hope to install the scope my self. I have the torque wrench set and levels, should i just take it to a smith? id like to do it myself and know its done right..any links to a good video or tutorial? thanks.

You will probably need to bed it. Thereis a thread just down from here addressing the same issue with a nice vid included.

very nice vid..my rifle came w/the 20 moa rail (badger) att., so i am going to inspect it tonite..

There should be a bunch of stuff, but not sure if the forum transition a few months ago nuked some of the earlier advice...

Steiner is going to be a good scope. So don't skimp on mounts/rings... Invest in a torque driver in Inch Pounds. Do a search on Torque drivers.

You didn't say what you were using for rings/mounts/rifle, etc. Post some pictures? There are lots of good folks here to help... Welcome aboard.

Thank you very much, i have been out in the field since thursday..The ups man is scheduled to be here with the scope tonite..as far as rings, i figured on badger or tps..most likely badger...i am learning quickly, shooting is like racing to go fast (or accurate in this case) cost money LOL

also, after watching the man in the video bed his rail, is it safe to assume if i unbolt my rail and it does not sit flush on the rear portion with the action of teh rifle then i also need to bed?

Just like he showed. Start at the front and install the mounting screws. If it does not sit tight in the rear than bed the rear. That should be all that is needed.
