I have been lurking on here for quite awhile and learned an absolute plethora of knowledge. After getting out of the Corps I really regretted not showing an interest or learning more about precision rifle so I picked up a 700 back in April. I have been slowly buying parts and pieces in hopes of building it in time for the summer when I plan to attend the Central Virginia Tactical 3-day basic course. Anyway, it's all finished up and ready to go. I would really like to thank Mark @ Short Action Customs, his customer service and communication with me were top notch and didn't get frustrated with my relentless onslaught of fng questions. Also lonewolfusmc's videos proved to be invaluable as I (hopefully successfully) did my first scope base bedding and scope install!

Sweet stick.
Thank you very much.

Eye relief bro, just me but looks like thats gona be painfull to shoot. But other then that looks nice.
Too far back right? I'm waiting on my cheek rest to show up and after it's installed I'm heading to the 100yd range and prior to shooting I'm going to experiment with eye relief and position of scope. Do have any insight or links to set it up for proper eye relief? I was going off of varying opinions and instructional vids. Some said just slide it back till field of view was best, some said put rings over ejection port vice rearmost spot. I kind of just took little pieces of each and combined them and that's the outcome lol.

Welcome! Nice looking build ... have you had her out yet?
Probably this weekend, well waiting on said cheek rest and re-mounting of scope...other then that should be updating with a range report this weekend.

Hey there fellow Devil lol. Nice looking rifle. You done good

There is no trick or science to eye relief. Just get on the rifle like you're going to shoot it and move the scope forward or backwards till it fits your position and you're comfortable. Boom

I actually just purchased a Wheeler Engineering scope mounting kit. I plan on bedding my scope base and lapping the rings. It also comes with a torque wrench so maybe for once I can get correct torque settings. You said your stock is bedded too? I want to try it but I didn't do so well my last go at it.

Thanks, I'll def give it another go. I purchased the same kit but found I only used the torque wrench and levels. I felt comfortable experimenting with the scope base (was quite easy with the 8541 tactical video, however I def. didn't feel comfortable tackling that myself. I just contacted mark @ short action customs and he explained the process and what little extras they do during the bedding process. It was very affordable and came out great.

P.S.
Is ring placement anything to be concerned about when mounting the scope? Or just personal preference? I hate to ask questions here when their is such a wealth of information but I'm really stumped on this one as I'm getting conflicting answers.

The wheeler engineering kit comes with a lapping bar and compound. If you bed the base, why not lap the rings? It just ensures there is a perfectly aligned channel for the scope to sit in. It's as much personal preference as scope base bedding. Who knows if it actually does anything but it at least eliminates one more check on my list of maximizing my rifle. Now, to bed my rifle and open the channel more.....

Well I would have but after bedding the seekins base, I put the rings on and those pointed metal bars and they were perfectly even; both vertically and horizontally. When I loosen the rings to re-adjust for eye relief I will check to see if their are any irregularities with the rings contacting the scope and lap if necessary.

Nice looking rig! Id take the rings off(keeping the scope attached) and move them about 2 grooves up, maybe 3. Didnt catch to see if you were going to handload or shoot factory, I could give you some loads that work well in my SPSS.

Here's mine for reference, we got the same rifle just different stock. Maybe it is not as far back as I thought it was at first. But I have a really long neck and arm's im 6'1 so my L.O.P. is longer then most. By the way I love my pst hopefully you do

A quick note on factory-barrelled (and thus factory-chambered) rifles: probably as a nod to the attorneys, factory-chambered rifle seem to be very long-throated. This has at least been my experience. This means that you will probably NOT be able to reach the lands with almost any VLD-style bullets. Since VLD-style bullets almost NEVER like to jump into the lands more than a few thousandths, you can try but will probably not succeed in using them in your factory rifle. I was never able to get any VLD bullets to shoot in any factory rifle. I wasted money trying to do so.

P.S.: scope level?
