Rifle Scopes NF beast?

Cause Nightforce. For people to think they are S&B good they have to charge S&B money. Ive looked through the BEAST and would own one but damn they are proud of em. Nightforce does not compete dollar to dollar with anybody. I'll go ahead and get 2 $2000 scopes instead.

So not caring about “because nightforce” (lol) what scope would you recommend for long-range shooting variable power that is really high quality? I care about quality and reliability in the turrets for more than the name.

I just sold most of my S&B's and bought 3 H59 beasts instead of buying a CT. You should buy one and see for yourself instead of listening to everyone else's opinions. They can be purchased for quite a bit less than $4000 right now.

Well this is a confusing situation. No I’ve heard people say they’ve sold both for the other.

Besides the price the only thing I heard as far as a complaint against the beast is that it was sub par quality glass compared to S&B

Think it's on par with the S&B PMII glas, The Beast also got slightly better turrets and a more forgiving parallax adjustment, but isn't worth almost twice the price, the differences are to small.

We just got back from shooting at a 2 mile range. At 2640 yards (1.5 mile), my S&B's ran out of elevation adjustment and we had to use the reticle for the balance (GenII XR). It was either buy a CT and mounts for all my scopes or just get new scopes with enough elevation adjustment. I bought one and did my own evaluation. Then I bought two more. I also have TT, S&B and Hensoldt. The beast works great for what I need it to do.

Please do more research before you start talking/ asking questions, I've looked at this thread and your SCAR17 thread. You can learn so much on this site just by doing research.

I bought the BEAST when it first came out and it was $3200 then the F1 ATACR came out and it was $2900 then the BEAST jumped to around $4000 over night. I think the reason they jumped the price up $800 overnight was because they were competing with themselves on the F1 ATACR . Anyway the BEAST is a great scope built like a tank its got some features that set it apart (good or bad depends who you ask) from other scopes. mainly the .2 mil adjustment and then the .10 mil lever its not really complicated and it does make dialing for long distance extremely fast, but in the end I just didn't care for it. I sold it and bought a F1 ATACR which I have since sold and bought a S&B PMII. For me with NF I just don't like the whole ocular turning when adjusting magnification.

Thanks. I tried a buddies and liked it, but then again I don’t have much to compare it to. I think I’ll poke around and see if I can find a way to try some S&Bs. Having a hard time justifying $4,000.00 on something that may only be slightly better, if at all.

NF, Tangent Theta, Minox, S&B, Kahles, Hensdolt. All top tier stuff. Find a power range and reticle at a price you like and buy it. The Beast is nice but not the best.

They are brand new sealed units when they arrive.

Kind of straying from the original topic of just scratching my head wondering what I was missing about the price but...

I’m looking for a FFP in mil dot, variable with at least 30 MOA adjustment in each direction(not sure what that is in mils, which I want the adjustments to be in), durable, not super concerned with glass quality, far more concerned with reliability in the adjustments, and hopefully no more than 3k. S&B looks tried and true but I’ll check out some more.

The BEAST and ATACR are pretty much the same scope optically so unless you just really want .20 mil and locking turrets I would get an ATACR.

I compared the S&B and BEAST glass very carefully before I sprung for the BEAST. I felt the BEAST was just a bit crisper. It's also built like a tank and will last you a lifetime. If you are shooting over 1000 yds the turret system is great. I am now switching over from tactical shooting to more target shooting and am selling my BEAST with MOAR reticle for $ 3000 in the marketplace section. It's mint and comes with a $ 250 Nightforce mount, lens shade, Switchviev magnification throw lever and Tenebreax caps. This would run you over $ 4200.

Schmidt fans will claim Schmidt is better. NF fans will claim NF is better. Vortex fans will claim none of them are work 1k+ more than Vortex........

Go to a match/matches and try out as many as you can.

Glass clarity at this level is about the least important feature.

If you find a reticle you really like and controls you like, doesn’t matter if it’s 2k or 4k.

Ain't easy to find a scope that's perfect, probably impossible.

Had most of the top end scopes and it's always something that bothers me...

How hard is it to make the perfect scope for everyone?. :)

have mine on my AI AX308 running 308, 6.5x47 and 6.5CM barrels. That scope is incredible .. did have a SB 5-25 on it, but really like the beast more.

WOW, ok that is a loaded question. And your lucky that you are jumping into this game at this time as there are a lot of options. You really want to go with a company that has great customer service because optics fail all the fucking time, and I don't care who they are made by, these are complex electro optical, mechanical mechanisms, with very tight tolerances. So that said if you want an opinion here is my list based on glass, tracking, and customer service. As well you didn't say what caliber you are shooting????? But here we go, assuming you are shooting 308 or 6.5 bolt gun.

1. Vortex Razor HD, either 18 or 25x. You can't go wrong with these guys.
2. Nightforce ATACR F1 16 or 25x, and BEAST, fantastic optics and great customer service.
3. Kahles 624i, not sure about the new offerings? I have had good experiences.
4. SnB all around fantastic and still regarded as the king of the mountain, however not sure if customer service is as good as the top three?
5. Steiner M5Xi 25x, close behind SnB and similar questions about customer care, not sure?
6. Tangent Theta, very very nice glass, turrets, customer care, but the premium is painful, many here would put TH somewhere in third or fourth place.

7.????? USO... they have been in the game for a long time, I hear they are hit and mis but many swear by them, very loyal following. I have not had any so can't offer any advice but they are top tier. Someone else will probably chime in here on those guys.

Now, this is just my opinion based on my personal experiences, others will flame me for my thoughts but whatever. All that said, there are a shit ton of other companies nipping at the heals of these top contenders, all with their own formula and great offerings.

EOTECH, Leopold, March, Trijicon, and Athlon to name a few.

I'll vote for the Leupold. Also a fan of Vortex.

You can pay a ton of money to get what I consider relatively minor improvements in glass, tracking, etc. Really depends on what your purpose is. If you're shooting groups off the bench, the more perfect every component of your weapon system is the better you're going to do, so better to spend thousands of dollars to get that extra little bit of accuracy. If you're a tactical shooter, hunting, or shooting steel, the extra dollars may not be worth it.

Of course if you have the cash to blow, why not?

Yeah, you could make the argument to save the money for ammo, training, etc... Ok I am on the fence with Leopold, as I have had a few of their scopes and they had issues, I really wanted to love my mark 6 18x but... the turrets/tracking was bad, now that said Leopold did agree to fix things. I hear great things about the Mark 8's and the new Mark 5's so... still on the fence. That said I want to like them. Leopold is a very old company trying to breath fresh air into their system, I can appreciate that.

Vortex on the other hand has proven to be more reliable in my book. As well noting wrong with buying a used Kahles, NF, or SnB and saving some dough. Theres a lot of way to save.
